About The Big Island (Hawaii island)

You might know that it as Waimea, but the post office didn't. When the post office demanded all towns in a state had their own name, Waimea, Maui kept its designation and Waimea on the Big Island went with the Hawaiian version of Samuel, chose for one of the town's favorite sons. Kamuela is a very different sort of Hawaiian vacation experience. Think cowpoke and ranch hands vs. beaches and mai tais. The interior town has several stunningly beautiful hotels and nine golf course, and where else on Hawaii could you tour a working cattle ranch?

Volcano
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to two active volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kilauea, and the entire park extends from the top of Mauna Loa all the way to the sea. A footpath will lead you through volcanic craters, deserts, and rain forests, with museums, rock paintings and accessible lava tunnels along the way. Architectural ruins of destroyed towns can also be sighted around the craters. Kilauea is a highly active volcano and its enormous crater resembles a giant cauldron in which scalding red-hot lava can be seen flowing in volcanic lakes, making it a true wonder of the nature.

Beach
Punaulu Black Sand Beach is located on the east side of the Big Island, adjacent to the scenic town of Vic, accompanied by organaceous rock cliffs. The hot volcanic lava flows into the cold sea water. After the pushing and impact of the waves, the magnesium and iron minerals in the lava are broken and deposited, forming a unique black sand beach. It is also home to rare animals and green turtles.

Waterfall
Rainbow Falls is located in the western part of Hilo City on the Big Island. It is famous for its waterfalls that reflect the sun's rays and form a beautiful rainbow. The rainbow waterfall is very different from the green plants surrounded by layers of greenery. Rainbow Falls is one of the few waterfalls in the Hawaiian Islands that have no dry seasons.
