The average altitude of People's Park is 800 meters, and it is located 100 meters west of the "Changqiao Drinking Horse" sculpture. It was originally just a lake on the west bank of the Urumqi River, surrounded by lush ancient trees. When the city of Urumqi was built in the 20th year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1755), the area was turned into a place for officials to rest. In the ninth year of Guangxu (1883), the construction of the garden began. In 1918, Yang Zengxin, who was in charge of Xinjiang, expanded it, dredged the bottom of the lake, renovated the lake shore, and built the Danfeng Chaoyang Pavilion in the style of the ancient Central Plains palace, and then built the Dragon King Temple, Zuixia Pavilion, Xiaochun Pavilion, Jianhu Pavilion, and more. The "Yuewei Thatched Cottage" was built to commemorate Ji Xiaolan, a scholar in the Qing Dynasty. Now the garden is full of trees and flowers. There are gardens in the garden with winding paths, the bizarre "Crystal Palace", sculptures in front of the pavilion, as well as attractions and facilities such as children's amusement parks and roller skating rinks. From spring to autumn, there are flower exhibitions, bonsai exhibitions, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and photography exhibitions. In the middle of winter, ice sculpture festivals and ice skating activities are often held.
