Madonna dell'Orto is a church located in the sestiere of Cannaregio. It houses many stunning artworks by the Venetian master Tintoretto (the artist is also entombed within the church). There is also a Titian piece on display. A definite must-see for art lovers and enthusiasts.
This church was built around 1300 and is very famous because it contains 10 pale of Tintoretto, which is not such common. It is located in a very not touristic part of Venice. In this period, during Biennale, there is also a beautiful exhbition in the neraby chiostro.
The church is impressively tall, and the huge classical facade can be seen from the canal. This is a fairly common Baroque style, so there are not many tourists, but there are several important reasons. In ancient times, it was an institution that trained young women to become music professionals. It was also a special orphanage.
An amazing example of Gothic architecture, the church of the Madonna dell'Orto, with three vast paintings by Jacopo Tintoretto
Madonna dell'Orto is one of the churches covered by the art pass you can purchase in any of them. Unfortunately when we visited around Christmas time the church was closed. We walked past, however and also could see it clearly on our boat trip to Murano. I particularly liked this neighborhood because it was so quiet and more residential.
Notre Dame Catering Garden: Notre Dame Catering Garden was dedicated to Christopher in the 14th century, but when the image of Notre Dame and Son was found in a nearby vegetable garden, it was re-dedicated to Notre Dame Catering Garden. The name of the church was changed to Notre Dame Catering Garden.
