Twelve Apostles Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Took the photo of my life on the Great Ocean Road! (With Tesla self-driving guide)
I went to the Great Ocean Road three times before I took the perfect foggy photo!! 2 days and 1 night on the Great Ocean Road, I experienced sunny weather, fog, strong wind, and heavy rain. The weather on the Great Ocean Road is really unpredictable!! It's because of the unpredictable weather that makes the 276-kilometer Great Ocean Road more fun to drive.
·
The most beautiful shooting spot on the Great Ocean Road is Gibson Steps! Gibson Steps! Gibson Steps! I have to say it three times. Walking down the Gibson Steps, you can see the big rocks and watch the sunset on the beach. It's only a few minutes' drive from the Twelve Apostles lookout. There are fewer people in the morning and at sunset. Whether you can encounter the right fog depends on your luck~
·
Self-driving route reference
D1: Depart from Melbourne - Charge in Geelong - Split Point Lookout - Apollo Bay - Marriners Lookout - Gibson Steps - 12 Apostles - Stay in Port Campbell, all along the coastline
D2: Port Campbell - London Bridge - Bay of Islands - Charge in Warrnambool - Return to Melbourne inland
·
The weather really determines the watchability of the Great Ocean Road. The weather was great on the first day, sunny all the way, and there was fog at sunset, which made every photo look good. It rained on the second day, and the wind was so strong that I was in a mess. I had to leave the coastline in a hurry and wander around the farm near Warrnambool. I really like the farms in Australia, the cows are so cute.
·
Accommodation:
There are quite a few towns where you can stay on the Great Ocean Road. Many tourists will stay in Apollo Bay. If you want to take pictures of the sunset at the Twelve Apostles, I suggest you stay in Port Campbell like I did. It's only a 10-minute drive from the Twelve Apostles and about 10 minutes from London Bridge.
·
Self-driving:
I experienced driving a Tesla Model Y on the Great Ocean Road for everyone, and I really didn't have any range anxiety.
The starting point of the Great Ocean Road, Geelong, and the end point, Warrnambool, both have Tesla's own superchargers. I set off from Geelong with a full charge and drove along the coastline, stopping and taking pictures along the way. When I arrived in Warrnambool, I still had 35% of the battery left. After charging, I drove back to Melbourne from the inland with 40% of the battery left. I only needed to charge twice for the round trip on the Great Ocean Road, and the supercharger was basically full within 40 minutes. At present, Model Y is still free to charge, I rented a Tesla to save fuel, but I didn't expect to save electricity, it's really great~
In addition to Geelong and Warrnambool, there are also 2 superchargers on the inland highway section, I remember they are in Cobden and Colac, ensuring that there is no range anxiety along the way~ Tesla car owners can rest assured to charge on the Great Ocean Road!

Twelve apostles - Great Ocean Road Drive
The Great Ocean Road is an ideal place for a road trip in Melbourne. Reminder to travel out early as it is rather unsafe driving with low visibility in the evening.
The coastline drive was a memorable experience and it is recommended for travellers to experience taking this route.
Do adequate research before the trip as you might be able to plot a quick stop to the Great Ocean Road chocolaterie as well.
💕 stunning nature at Twelve Apostles
#valentinescape
One of the highlights along the Great Ocean Road was the Twelve Apostles and is recommended as a must-do experience. We were won over by the truly breathtaking view of the Twelve Apostles. From different lookout points, we were treated with a different stunning vista of the limestone stacks rising out of the ocean. We also learned about the history of the area, including the early settlers and shipwrecks that occurred along the coast.
Indeed, it is a nature spot for anyone to see how these limestone stacks evolved over thousands of years through erosion and continue to be shaped by the ocean. Maybe when we visit again next time, we will have another different view of the Twelve Apostles.

Brighton beach Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Melbourne’s Iconic Colorful Bathing Boxes
#melbournetrip #visitmelbourne #melbourne #australia
It’s winter time here Down Under but that means the beach is not as crowded as usual. It was a sunny 15 degree Celcius and I got myself out to Brighton Beach to check out those iconic colorful bathing boxes! It was relatively easy to get there with public bus, 5-10 minutes walk from the stop, and you’ll get there!
As it is the only things to see at Brighton Beach, 15-30 minutes are probably enough if you don’t need to take photo on each of those boxes. You can head to some cafes around, just make sure to be there before 3PM because the cafes close early.
How to Get There : drive, take taxi, or take public Bus 600, 922 or 923 (pay attention to the schedule though, it only comes every 20-30mins)

Bright & Sunny Brighton Beach, Melbourne
#wecreate memories on this beach! 🤩 Just 20min away by car from the city, it was a good place to getaway to chill and enjoy the seaside.
The colourful beachhouses are the highlight and are absolutely eye-catching! With a variety of themes, one can pose with them depending on one’s creativity!
There is a parking lot nearer the Brighton Beach Gardens as the parking lot for the beach itself is under maintenance. Do remember to pay for parking at the machine ✅
There are benches to sit around to take in the scenery. Bring sunnies on a bright day to better enjoy the sight!
Once you’ve had your fill of the seabreeze, head over to Swordfish Chippery for some yummy fish and chips! They even offer banana and pineapple fritters…I was curious but not enough to spend on fried pineapple 😂 If you do try it, could you let me know?
Colourful beach boxes @ Brighton! 💖
Melbourne is famous for its Brighton bathing boxes, and wouldn’t you know there is a pretty pink one! This stretch of beach down Esplanade is quiet with few tourists, allowing you to get all the pictures you want. There are also many interesting and unique designs, which I’m sure you’ll find one to love. Did you know that the bathing boxes are privately owned? So the designs are actually chosen by their owners! With government approval of course.
Address: Esplanade, Brighton VIC 3186

Brighton Bathing Boxes at Victoria’s beach 🇦🇺
In Melbourne, the bathing boxes is one of the highlight attraction place to visit. The boxes are painted with rainbow colors and it also provides a colorful backdrop which is made by wood. The weather in that time might not be in a good condition for you to swim or do sun bathing but you can walk along at the beach and seeing or feeding the birds. Moreover, there are many cafes nearby for cafe hopper to sit and chill with the beach view. #BathingBoxes #Victoriabeach #Brighton #melbourne #australia

State Library Victoria Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
State Library Victoria
Aesthetic, pretty, quiet, magnificent library. Indulge in a peace of mind where you can stay for the entire day. Reading on some books, chilling over netflix or just pop earphones in to finish up work/studies. More than enough seats as well! After a good productive day here there’s also a lot of food/restaurants nearby where you can dine and chill. #melbourne #victoria #Library
The majestic State Library of Victoria
The majestic State Library of Victoria in the heart of Melbourne is a must-visit for any bibliophile or architecture enthusiast. As one of the first sights that greeted me in the city, its imposing façade and domed roof demand attention. Venturing inside, I was amazed by the sheer scale of the place - over 2 million books spread across multiple floors open to the public. The highlight is undoubtedly the grand reading room, with its soaring ceilings and rows of long wooden tables under a glittering stained glass dome. It's easy to imagine the ghosts of scholars past hunched studiously over their work.
Yet the library also manages to blend 19th century grandeur with modern technology seamlessly. While preserving its heritage, there are now computers and wifi access scattered throughout for digital-age visitors. The addition of a children's garden and play area make it family-friendly too. Beyond the books, there are interesting temporary exhibitions to enjoy as well as the fascinating Cowen Gallery chronicling the library's history since it opened in 1854.
Don't miss experiencing one of Melbourne's top free attractions for yourself. Come armed with your camera to capture the beautiful architecture. Pick a table in the magnificent reading room, whispering almost feels forbidden! Wander through the shelves or get lost in the non-fiction depths. With knowledgeable staff, accessible resources, and inviting spaces, the State Library offers a little slice of bookish heaven in Victoria's capital.

The State Library of Victoria, a 1856 Legacy

If you’re a digital nomad, the many many libraries in Melbourne is going to be your most favorite thing about this city. No need to find cafes with good wifi because all libraries here has free fast speed wifi and you don’t need to spend any money to do your work!
And of course, THE biggest and oldest library in the city, the State Library of Victoria, should be number one on your list. This building has been around since the 1800 and it give such a Hogwarts vibe I couldn’t help but joining the many many people there to open my laptop and did some work.
If you only come there to visit, there are several free exhibitions that you can check out, too, and there’s cafe inside. It can easily take one hour to walk around all area of the library. A lovely way to spend your afternoon!

State Library Victoria speed run photos
It is a nice and beautiful place to be and a must visit place if you ever come to Melbourne. It was on my Melbourne checklist, so one down. I heard that sometimes you got to see a proposal happen in there that gotta be fun to see 😄. My biggest regret after visiting is that I don't have enough time to savor all the surroundings or maybe just to sit down and read a book. I go there on my last day, and the time is cutting close for my flight. well, on the bright side, I still have more stuff I want to see in there.

🇦🇺Melbourne | Winter Night Market
My friend led me to this winter market in Melbourne yesterday. It was one of the most popular places in the city. There were shops and food stores around. It’s a surprise to me seeing people doing silence disco and a clown performing his tricks.
The best of the night was snow!!! Can’t imagine it’s snowing at the market.
The winter market is operating every Wednesdays with fun activities to carry out. It’s so different from the morning one.
Highlights - Snow and everything you couldn’t imagine

Sugar sugar doughnuts
Queen victoria market famous sugar doughnuts did not disappoint. It was freshly made on the spot and served hot. Did not know that there was jam inside but eventhough i was never a fan of jam doughnuts, it did not taste bad. The jam was sweet but light.
The dough was soo good , not too heavy and soft and the sugar was just right.
Price wise: 5 for $10 was a little pricy considering that it was alot cheaper years back.
Do drop by when you are visiting Queen Victoria market in Melbourne, Victoria.
People’s Favorite Queen Victoria Market!

QVM is always a go-to destination for everyone visiting or living in Melbourne! They sell EVERYTHING there. From fresh produce to tourist’s souvenirs, cheeses and wines to arts and crafts, various food trucks, make sure you bring a big shopping bags (or better, shopping trolley!) here.
Follow the crowd when you’re there. I noticed a very long queue and they were all queuing for a $1 bags of veggies. Can’t buy those at supermarkets for sure!
Address - Queen St, Melbourne, Australia
Opens everyday except Monday and Wednesday (but they have Night Market on Wednesdays during winter time).
Souvenirs Haven - Queen Victoria Market 🛍️
#wecreate
Buying souvenirs during your travel can be a bit complicated sometimes as it depends on the space on our luggage/bag left, the price and also the weight you have to carry after.
But no need to worry as in Queen Victoria Market you will be able to purchase various type of souvenirs. There’s lot of option such as keychains, socks, tote bag, T-shirt, woodcraft and the list just goes on.
The price is so affordable as you can get about 6-10 magnets/keychain combo for as low as AUD10. A really good bargain compared to the other shops. Besides souvenirs, you can also grab some food as there’s lot of food truck and cafe in the market area offering variety of meals/snacks.
And if you’re planning to visit State Library Victoria its just around 10 minutes walk and you may continue your journey to Chinatown after that - only 5 minutes walk.

Puffing Billy Railway Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Puff puff! Puffing Billy Train Ride! 🚂
#melbournetrip
We rode this train as part of a tour and was on the train for 30 minutes.
We started at Belgrave Station and ended at Menzies Creek.
If you have kids this will be really fun and you can sit on the sides and dangle your feet off the side of the train.
Adults and older kids are allowed to sit on the sills, so you can have your feet dangling out as the train rides thru the forest, which is really what the ride is all about, a must do!
It takes you through some beautiful scenery to explore. It was a wonderful experience on this old heritage train.
🚂 Choo Choo! All Aboard the Puffing Billy Steam Train! 🌫️
Hey there, fellow adventurers! Guess what? I recently hopped on the legendary Puffing Billy Steam Train and boy, was it a blast! 🎉 Let me take you on a thrilling ride through time and nature! 🌳
As the steamy locomotive roared to life, we were transported back to the good ol' days. 🚂 The vintage carriages were like time capsules, ready to whisk us away on a whimsical journey. The picturesque Dandenong Ranges unfolded before us like a dreamy painting. 🌿🌸
With the wind in my hair and a grin on my face, I couldn't help but feel like a kid again! The rhythmic clatter of the wheels and the hissing steam created a magical symphony. 🎶 It was pure nostalgia mixed with excitement! 😄
Hold your breath, because the Monbulk Creek Trestle Bridge stole the show! Suspended high above the valley, it offered views that made my heart skip a beat. The adrenaline rush was real, my friends! 😱✨
As the journey came to an end, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this enchanting ride. Puffing Billy reminded me of the simple joys in life and the magic that comes with embracing them. ✨
So, my adventurous pals, if you're ready for a thrilling escapade through time and nature, grab your ticket and join the Puffing Billy adventure! It's a one-way trip to fun, nostalgia, and the beauty of Australia's countryside. 🌈🌿
See you on the tracks!!

Awesome steam engine train experience
Awesome steam train experience for the kids as they can get to put their legs out and enjoy the breeze as the train is quite slow moving. its quite safe for the kids but adult supervision is encourgaed. Easy to book the tickets online and checking in is a breeze too. Along the way we saw alot of natural sceneries and its a nice ride to lakeside station. all in, its a worthwhile experience.
Fun place for kids to ride the steam train
We were here with our kids and they love the experience of riding on a steam train. Please take into account that a return trip (from Belgrave to Lakeside) will take around 3 hour.
So you can spend the whole day here. If the weather allows, you can try to explore Lakeside or have a picnic over there. Bring along an umbrella as weather can be unpredictable.
Please cater ample time to find car park if you drive here. When we were here, it took us a while to get to the car park near the train station as most of nearby car park lots are taken up. We barely reach 1 minute before the train departs but the staff was kind enough to let us board the train. Very friendly and helpful staff!
