Beautiful and special, it is a place very easily wandered, full of beautiful streets and buildings, and endless things to do. Great food, good shopping, not much left wanting.
Through much of modern history, Vienna was one of the great world capitals. Rising from Celtic and Roman settlements, the city became a wonder of Medieval and Baroque architecture and culture, full of artists and musicians. The modern city center is chock full of architectural masterpieces, some, like the Ringstrasse, quite novel. This rich cultural fabric earned the district a World Heritage Site designation.
The historic center of Vienna is rich in architecture styles of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including Baroque castles and gardens.
It's all right there. The cathedrals, the shopping, the transportation, the park, and everything else. It was a great place to start my day of running around the city and getting a feel for it.
Walk through Vienna's World Heritage Old Town and experience history on every corner.
Not sure this rates a separate entry, but be sure to explore the historic city centre. Whether it's crypts, museums or opera, you won't go wrong.
The number of attractions is simply off scale. You can, of course, wander around and see it on your own, but I still strongly recommend using the services of a good guide.
