The memorial to the Soviet Martyrs is located on the side of the Black Mountain Square, built in 1949 to commemorate the more than 26,000 soldiers who died in the battle when the Soviet Red Army liberated Austria in 1944. The monument is topped by Red Army soldiers holding flags and shields and surrounded by colonnades. There is a large fountain in front of the monument.
