About Washington D.C.: Washington is the capital city of the United States. The embassies of countries from around the world are housed here, as well as many American government bureaus, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Important political institutions such as the White House, Capitol Building and Washington Monument are located here. There are also historical and cultural landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial, which make the city full to the brim with a refined cultural atmosphere. Outside the capital, the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery are located across the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia. Washington has an abundance of famous museums like the Smithsonian.
