Since ancient times, the grassland of Mulan Weichang has been rich in water and grass. The area also includes the traditional imperial hunting ground used during the Qing dynasty (1636-1912). Every year during the fall, the emperor would bring his court ministers here to hunt. The great expanse of Mulan Weichang encompasses four scenic areas: the Saihanba National Forest Park, Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Area, and Hongsongwa (“Valley of Korean Pine”) National Nature Reserve on the Hebei side, and the Wulan Butong Grassland on the Inner Mongolia side.
