Muli Temple is a key cultural relics protection unit in Sichuan Province. It is located at the foothills of Daniyabu, Niyidian Village, Taoba Township, Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, more than 300 kilometers away from Xichang City and about 60 kilometers away from the county seat. It was once one of the largest Huangjiao Lama temples in the Kham Tibetan area and has a special status in the Tibetan area. Founded in 1656 AD, it is another large temple built after the Great Temple of Wallzhai and the Great Temple of Kangwu. The foundation was laid and built by Rao Jongba Sangden Sangbu imitating the layout of the Drepung Monastery in Lhasa. It took 3 years and covered an area of about 80,000 square meters. The full name in Tibetan-Muli Gedanxi Zhuqu Lelang Baji Warin.
There are too many temples in the Kham area. For the Tibetan Buddhist temples that have no historical and cultural precipitation, I can’t remember the history of each one. The Muli Temple is the most famous scenic spot in the Muli area. It is relatively large in scale. It was much more majestic before. Although the civil structure has been repaired many times over thousands of years, it is still damaged everywhere.
I staggered here, but I don’t regret it, a quiet place, there is only accommodation next to the temple, and I have to go to the town below to eat.
Leaving Lugu Lake, entering Muli, Sichuan from a mountain road without any navigation, in fact, except for the virgin forests of high mountains and valleys, the journey is not far away, and we will arrive at Rock Town at noon. The Muli Temple is on the mountainside halfway behind the town. The peaks and forests stand tall and beautiful. In front is the endless rushing Mulitang River. Muli Temple should be the largest temple in the corner of the Sichuan-Yunnan border. It is very spectacular.
