The National Theater is located in Max-Joseph-Platz, the large square named after King Maximilian Joseph, in the city of Munich in Germany. A historic opera house, the theater is home of the Bavarian State Ballet and the Bavarian State Opera. The building of the first theater commenced operations in 1818 with a performance of Die Weihe by Ferdinand Fränzl. But it was destroyed by a fire in 1825. A second theater was built and expanded in 1930 but it was destroyed in World War II bombing in 1943.
