The Grass Skyline, nicknamed “China’s Route 66,” passes many beautiful sights like grassland, windmills, terraced farm fields, and rock cliffs. Driving along the road is a good choice for a weekend sightseeing trip in the vicinity of Beijing. The Grass Skyline’s west end begins at Yehu (“Wild Fox”) Ridge on the south side of the Zhangbei County seat and continues east to Huapi Ridge in Chongli County. The land around the Skyline is covered in wildflowers in the summertime and becomes a sea of gold in the autumn. You can enter from either the Yehu Ridge or Huapi Ridge side, and the entire stretch of road is a beautiful drive. Since it climbs a lot, you'll often see the road appear to end at the horizon, which is how it got the name “skyline.” You can pull over anywhere to get out of the car and take beautiful photographs.
