Huangyandong Scenic Area

The Huangyan Cave Site is located at the southwest foothills of Shiziyan, Yuluo Town, Fengkai County. It is a solitary triassic limestone peak standing in the karst valley. The cave is sloping in front of it, and the mountains behind it are continuous and the peaks are undulating. The entrance of the cave faces southwest, with a relative height of 15 meters. The cave is divided into upper and lower floors. There are branch holes in the west and south of the cave hall. Discovered in August 1961, the site is a typical example of the transition from the Paleolithic to Neolithic cultures in Lingnan. More than 1,000 stone tools were found at the Huangyan Cave site, including choppers, scrapers, stone cores, stone hammers, perforators, etc. Most of them retain the natural surface of the gravel, which is rough in production and simple in processing. The blades of the objects are processed. It is very steep and the blade angle is more than 70 degrees. Most of them are processed by hammering method and one-sided and one-way direct processing. It belongs to the transitional stage from the Paleolithic Age to the Neolithic Age, and represents the stone tool industry in the Lingnan area of the Mesolithic Age. There are 30 species of fossil fauna in Huangyan Cave, belonging to the giant panda-saber-toothed fauna in South China. The dating is 13.6±0.9 million years ago, reflecting the subtropical ecological environment at that time. From the Lingnan region to the South China region, the remains of cave culture represented by Fengkai Huangyan Cave and Yangchun Duzai Site are precious materials for studying the cultural features of this region about 10,000 years ago and earlier. In 1991, a site exhibition hall was built next to the site.
