Take a private guide!
The Britomart Monument has such a rich history, but no interpretation panels. The best way to understand this amazing history is visit with a private guide! It’s one of the hidden gems of Akaroa.
It was no more than a 5 minute walk uphill and some stairs. The views at the top are beautiful. The monument is well situated And the surrounding area well maintained.

Lovely views & a touch of history
Like most places in Akaroa an uphill walks rewards with great views over the harbour and town on a clear day.
Stiff climb that was worth it
A simple memorial to acknowledge the first arrivals and the first police presence with a wonderful view.
Some history I didn't know!
Worth a walk up to thus monument from Beach Road. You'll learn something about the British involvement at Akaroa in the 1800s.
