The visit to the Prisão Académica is an integral part of the visit to the Biblioteca Joanina. Reviewing it here separately does not seem particularly significant to us. Our guided (but not informative...
Prisão Academia
a 2 cell prison from the time that the University had own court. A perfect add-on if visiting Biblioteca Joanina.
Unique feature
Odd to see a prison this large in a university to hold the misbehaving students. Bars on the windows and doors. Beautiful ceiling in the prison. It is next to the Library.
So very funny, yet a bit disturbing as well.
As an academician, there are times when we would like to severely punish some of our students.... wood stock and even the rack has come to mind at times! (jk) This building housed the more uncontroll...
Don't Get Caught Up Here.
This is where the bad boys and girls that misbehaved in the library would be sentenced to spend time reflecting on the sins of stealing books, etc. Not a pleasant way to spend time at university.
