Walled City of Cartagena

Cartagena's ancient walls, which house many forts, face the Pacific Ocean and defend against attacks on the sea, have now become a tourist attraction, stretching more than ten kilometers, documenting Cartagena's strategic position, and its historical importance.

The old city of Cartagena is located on the northern coast of Colombia on the Caribbean coast. It is strategically located between the Magdalena and the Simuno rivers and is the main port of trade between Spain and its overseas empires and established its important position in the early 1540s. In colonial times, it was an important port for Peruvian silver exports to Spain and for the import of enslaved Africans under the asiento system. It was the target of pirate attacks in the Caribbean. So the old walls of Cartagena were once important. It is now surrounded by bars and restaurants with historic walls.

Very hot city but the bay is beautiful, there is a chance to feel the history there.

The city wall is so beautiful to walk along. Especially at sunset when you can look over the ocean and ancient city. Would definitely recommend
