Parker Farm is one of the oldest and largest ranches in the United States and the largest private farm in the United States. Unlike the rest of Hawaii, it is filled with a refreshingly idyllic atmosphere, with rolling lush pasture grasslands. John Palmer Parker founded Parker Ranch in 1847. At that time, Parker married Kamehameha I's granddaughter and bought 2 acres from the king for $10. Parker Ranch House is a few miles south of the city. The original dwellings were built entirely from local wood such as Koam. Puopaloo Hall is the residence of Richard Smart, the sixth generation of Parker, and was built on the site in 1879. Richard extended the house to make room for his European art collection.
