the view from the observatory mid way is better
I do recommend to set out to this observatory but on the road on the way there is an observatory- not to be missed! The views from there were much better than from the top- its just a bit too high.

It's still a new tourist attraction. The scenery is outstanding. It is a place where you can see Lake Kussharo below. The free parking lot was completed when I went. The free toilet was also completed. Perhaps because of public works in Abashiri City, the observatory was under construction with a bull toast.
As the title suggests, the building is not open from November to the end of April, but the parking lot is open to climbers climbing Mokoto Mountain. Unfortunately the toilet is not open. Mokotoyama is a mountain of 1000 m just above sea level, and it seems that you can reach the top in about an hour from this parking lot. The "725" attached to the name of the original 々 facility shows an altitude, so it is actually a climb of 275 m. If the conditions are met, you can see the sea of clouds, but when I went ...
It is a superb view spot over 1000 meters above sea level. In addition to overlooking Lake Kussharo, the spectacular view of the mountain 々 spreads out. You can see the Sea of Okhotsk, Mt. Shari, and Kunigo Island in the distance.
