Belvedere Lookout

Located just a few miles inland from Paopao, this well-known viewing platform is a higher point on the island accessible by car. From the peak of the observation deck (219m), you can get a bird's-eye view of Opunohu Bay, Cook's Bay, Mount Rotui and surrounding peaks, as well as the valley below. It is accessible by car from the coastal road fork at the top of the two bays, and the road from Opunohu Bay has grazing horses and verdant meadows along the way, winding through the valley of the same name. The Paopao Highway diverges from the coastal road near Paopao Village, passing through the Paopao Valley Pineapple Plantation. The two roads meet not far from the ruins of several ancient temples, then meander up to the top of the observation deck. Not only is there a stunning view at the top, as well as a concrete stand for standing viewing, and maybe a few chicks and a rooster or two pacing nearby.
