Absolutely stunning — totally worth it!
It’s about a 3-hour drive from Calgary. We left at 7 AM and arrived around 10 AM. The place is called Saskatchewan Glacier, but you need to navigate to 52°10’14.4”N 117°04’24.0“W to park. The weather yesterday was perfect, and throughout the whole day, we only ran into three other people on this trail (there were already two cars parked when we arrived — I recommend getting there before 9 AM).
After getting out of the car, we followed the footprints that were already made, climbed over a hill, crossed a large plain, and eventually reached the glacier 😆. The footprints were very clear, so just follow them. The hill isn’t steep, so it’s not difficult. For three hours, we didn’t see a single soul, and I started feeling a little unsure if we were on the right path — luckily we met someone returning who told us the ice cave was just ahead.
The round trip is almost 20 km (my earlier note of 10 km was wrong — I didn’t realize our records were in miles 😅🙏). The total took seven hours. It’s not as difficult as I imagined, but for kids it’s still challenging. The difficulty isn’t technical, but it’s long and requires endurance. I wouldn’t manage it alone with my two kids — their dad had to come because he’s stricter and pushes them to keep going 😆.
The snow was deep, and it’s easy to sink in with every step — I also fell twice badly. Ice cleats and trekking poles are necessary. We all agreed this is the most rewarding hike we’ve ever done!
A friend shared a video a few days ago showing the ice cave collapsed, so there’s still a danger of falling ice — please be very careful ⚠️. Also, there is no phone signal at the glacier, and the parking location is shown in the last photo.

This park exudes a pristine, natural atmosphere. Stepping in on a crisp early winter morning feels like unlocking the secrets of the North American prairie. The park is divided into the East Block and the West Block. It's recommended to visit the West Block in the early morning light to capture the softest shadows. A stroll along the Eco-Tour Scenic Drive offers opportunities to encounter herds of bison and antelope. If you enjoy photography like I do, keep an eye out for the cabin area—the red cabins with blue doors offer a truly healing combination of snowy landscapes and a clear blue morning sky.
