The U.S. Virgin Islands are part of the Virgin Islands. Since the sovereignty of another part of the Virgin Islands is now owned by the United Kingdom, the British territory part of the archipelago is usually called the "British Virgin Islands", while the U.S. territory part is called the "U.S. Virgin Islands". The United States Virgin Islands consists of more than 50 islands and coral reefs, covering an area of โโ344 square kilometers. The largest islands are Santa Cruz Island, St. John Island and St. Thomas Island, as well as Water Island, which is relatively small in area but has special historical significance. It has a tropical climate and is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.โ
