Is Trip.com Legit?

If you’re wondering if Trip.com is legit, you’re not alone. If you're like me, you probably hesitate when you come across a travel deal that seems too good to be true (often about 30% lower than Booking and Agoda).

So, is Trip.com legit? From my experience and the feedback of many travelers, the answer is yes—Trip.com is a legitimate and reliable platform for booking flights, hotels, and more.

Trip.com is part of the Trip.com Group, a global travel service provider that also owns brands like Ctrip and Skyscanner. They have a significant presence in the travel industry and are known for offering competitive prices.

I think sometimes some of us get too suspicious. Trip.com, as has been mentioned here, was acquired late last year by Ctrip, which is basically the Expedia of China. Living in China over the past several years I've dealt with Ctrip quite a few times with no complaints. In fact the new Trip.com layout and design looks like Ctrip's.

But let's check what other users have to say. One traveler shared same experience as me:

"I've booked multiple flights through Trip.com over the past year. Initially, I was skeptical due to some negative reviews, but my experiences have been positive. The bookings were confirmed promptly, and I didn't face any issues at the airport. The prices were often better than other sites."

Another user mentioned:

"I used Trip.com for hotel reservations during my trip to Europe. The app was easy to use, and I found some great deals on hotels in Paris and Rome. The booking confirmations came through quickly, and the hotels had my reservations without any hiccups."
It is 100% legitimate . trip.com is owned by ctrip from China. Ctrip is the most popular travel booking site in China. trip.com is their site for international customers. Personally I used ctrip many times and just started to use trip.com recently. (I am originally from China and now live in Canada). The flight tickets price from trip.com is unbeatable. The trade off is your booking can not be changed or cancelled, thus no refund at all. You really need to be sure about your travel plan before book it with trip.com

Of course, like any service, there are mixed reviews. Some users have expressed concerns, mainly related to customer service and cancellation policies:

"I had to change my flight due to unforeseen circumstances. It took some time to get in touch with customer support, but eventually, they assisted me with the change, though with some fees involved."

From my perspective, it's essential to be aware of Trip.com's terms and conditions, especially regarding cancellations and refunds. Here are some tips based on user experiences:

  • Double-Check Booking Details: Ensure all your information is correct before confirming a booking. This includes dates, names, and contact information.
  • Understand the Cancellation Policy: Trip.com offers both refundable and non-refundable options. Paying attention to the fare rules can save you from unexpected fees later.
  • Use Customer Support Channels: If you run into issues, Trip.com has customer service available via phone and chat. While response times can vary, many users have found resolutions by reaching out.

Trip.com Reviews for Flights

Many travelers have reported positive experiences when booking flights through Trip.com. Users often highlight the platform's competitive pricing, noting that airfares are frequently lower than those found on other booking sites.

"So far I have no complaints for Trip.com flight booking. Saving me about $100. That $ I can spend on souvenirs etc."

The ease of use of both the website and the app is another commonly mentioned advantage, with a straightforward booking process and clear displays of flight options.

Several users have appreciated the prompt confirmation of their bookings. After completing a purchase, confirmations and e-tickets are typically emailed within a short period, providing assurance that their travel plans are set. Some travelers have mentioned that even without prior knowledge of Trip.com, their bookings were honored without issues by the airlines upon check-in.

"After 7 hours my itinerary confirmation was sent by the airline. Double checked it by calling the airline. Therefore conclude that Trip.com is legit AF. :) Thank you for the cheap flight of my dream Trip.com"

However, there are also comments about areas where Trip.com could improve. A few users have encountered challenges when attempting to modify or cancel flights, especially with non-refundable tickets. Customer service response times can vary, and some travelers have found it difficult to resolve issues quickly. It's important to carefully read the fare rules and understand the terms and conditions before finalizing a booking.

I've used them a lot. Always been fine. The bad reviews I've read are generally when people want to change or alter their bookings. So just be 110% sure of the time, date, location and name on ticket before booking.
I booked ticket flight from trip.com and it was okay. So, yeah I am not sure either why most of users are having difficulties but from my side, the booking is completely okay and I already got my ticket. I have done double cross checked to the airflight site and it's legit.
I just booked a flight and received booking confirmation in 20 minutes. The T&C were clearly laid out in the entire booking process and they follow the airlines' own T&C. So for example, one cannot complain that "I didn't get free baggage allowance" when booking on AirAsia. And if you cancel and rebook on AirAsia for example, you get hit with a penalty fee of at least 30-50% of the fare plus the fare difference, if any.

Tips for Booking Flights on Trip.com:

  • 👀Double-Check Flight Details: Ensure all passenger information and travel dates are correct before confirming your booking.
  • 💰Review Fare Rules: Pay attention to the cancellation and change policies associated with your chosen fare.
  • Confirm with the Airline: For added peace of mind, you can verify your booking directly with the airline after receiving your confirmation from Trip.com.

Trip.com Reviews for Hotels

Trip.com offers a wide selection of hotels worldwide, catering to various budgets and preferences. Users often praise the platform for its competitive hotel rates, sometimes finding deals that are not available on other booking sites. The detailed hotel descriptions, photos, and user reviews on Trip.com help travelers make informed decisions.

Many guests have reported smooth check-in experiences at hotels booked through Trip.com. Reservations are usually correctly processed, and any special requests made during booking are often accommodated by the hotel. Users appreciate receiving immediate booking confirmations, which include all necessary details for their stay.

After just recently booked some hotels in Hokkaido through trip.com I came across this post. Had me worried after reading this so I email all the hotels to reconfirm by bookings and I am happy to report that all my reservations are in order. trip.com prices were better and the most important thing for me is that while the other booking sites report that the hotels were full trip.com had availability!
Update. In the past month I've booked 1 hotel in Japan with trip.com and everything was fine. I've also booked 2 flights - Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia and KL to Bangkok on Malindo Air and they were both fine. Summary - so far both the hotel and flights that I've booked through trip.com were honored and I had zero problems.

On the flip side, some travelers have noted issues such as discrepancies in room types or misunderstandings about hotel amenities. In rare cases, overbooking has occurred, leading to inconveniences upon arrival. Communication with customer service to resolve such issues can sometimes be time-consuming.

Tips for Booking Hotels on Trip.com:

  • Contact the Hotel Directly: After booking, it's a good idea to reach out to the hotel to confirm your reservation and any special requests.
  • Read Cancellation Policies Carefully: Be aware of the hotel's cancellation terms to avoid unexpected charges.
  • Check Multiple Reviews: Looking at various guest reviews can provide a broader perspective on the hotel's quality and service.
