Construction of the Old Summer Palace began in 1707, the 46th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi, and lasted for 155 years through the reigns of Emperors Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Xianfeng. Its construction spanned the Qing dynasty&#39;s peak and its decline, making it a true chronicle of its rise and fall. Qing emperors favored royal gardens more than any other dynasty. Emperors Jiaqing and Xianfeng were born in the Old Summer Palace, while Emperors Yongzheng and Daoguang died there. After being burned down by the British and French, the Old Summer Palace never recovered. Later, the Old Summer Palace Ruins Park was established. Visitors to the Old Summer Palace are often fleeting, and their understanding of the Old Summer Palace is far less than that of the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, or the Mountain Resort. Many significant historical events took place in the Old Summer Palace. Forgetting the past means there is no hope for the future; we should cherish the memory of the Old Summer Palace&#39;s history.

Although it is very close to Beijing, it was my first time to Xiangshan. I took the light rail to Xiangshan at the turn of autumn and winter, and wandered in the forest in the suburbs. My mind really relaxed.

Took a taxi from peking internatinal airport cost 180 rmb, tool one hour 10mins, perfect for a morning visit, spend three to four hours scaling up to the top of thegreat wall. great scenery but got a bit busy towads lunch time. i manged to catch a tour bus back into beijing which cost 40rmb and stops at the birds nest stadium.
