In November of 2016, Andrew Godaire, son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin, colleague and friend, was tragically killed in a car accident at the young age of 22.  Andrew was a vibrant, fun loving, smart and passionate young man. He found his professional niche and his second family at the University of Vermont Medical Center, working in Dermatology as a medical assistant. Andrew’s passion for things such as the outdoors, silk screen printing and making people laugh transcended into his work ethic where he showed compassion and care towards every individual he encountered, offering a genuine smile and ensuring that their experience was nothing short of exceptional, the same way he lived his life. One of the many ways we have chosen to honor Andrew’s memory is with the first annual Andrew Godaire Memorial Golf Tournament, held at the beautiful West Bolton Golf Club.  Consistent with Andrew's passion to help others, all proceeds will go towards the Andrew Godaire Memorial Scholarship, which provides support to Medical Assistants desiring to enhance their knowledge in the field of medial assisting or to continue their formal education towards a degree. By participating in this community event, you will be supporting the Andrew Godaire Memorial Scholarship Fund which helps support the future of our Medical Assistants. Tickets are $100 +fee per person, which includes greens fees, cart and a BBQ afterwards.  There will be auction items, hole contests, including hole in one and a raffle just to name a few events! There will also be plenty of wild food and drink for everyone to get stuck into! The focus with all of our workshops is on the 4 'F's of Foraging: Fungi, Fruit, Flowers and Foliage . What To Expect Our 'Forage & Cook - Full Day' events are full day spent finding, identifying and gathering wild ingredients before cooking them into a hearty meal as a group. This format is popular with those looking for a more comprehensive experience, offering us the chance to showcase a range of wild flavours. 4 hours will be spent finding, identifying and gathering ingredients. This will then be followed by 2 hours of cooking, preparing and eating the harvest. Expect a focus on 15-20 specific ingredients, which will then be incorporated into 3 to 5 simple dishes, designed to showcase each respective ingredient effectively. There will also be a wild tipple (soft alternative also available) served to the group and perhaps a range of 'table toppers' that your tutor will have made in advance to enhance the meal, such as a wild kimchi, a foraged ketchup or homemade seasoning. DURATION: 6 hours (approx 4 hours of foraging and 2 hours preparing and eating your wild dinner) We like to keep some elements a surprise for the day, but here is what you can expect from your foraging workshop: a short introduction regarding the safety and format of the day discussions around foraging tips, safety, ethics, etiquette, sustainability and the law a circular walking route taking in different growing environments around the site. Expect a route of around 3-4km predominantly on footpaths a closer look at edible wild species and any poisonous lookalikes by a professional forager a chance to slow the pace of modern life down, meet new people and immerse yourself in a soul-nourishing activity, reconnecting with nature and discovering new flavours small tasters of wild food, drinks and other preserves - this includes freshly-picked items straight from the wild as we look to find the ingredients that will work best in our meal our workshops are run in a welcoming and informal fashion, where attendee questions and contributions are encouraged after the event, you will be sent a follow-up email containing a list of everything we found on the day and a full menu. Please do not expect photos or descriptions in this email - it is purely a list for reference purposes, and we find it helps people do further research in their own time. The day begins at 12 noon and is organised into 8 separate fun classes which will take place every 30 minutes. Categories this year are Most Handsome Boy, Prettiest Girl, Noisiest Dog, Best Begging Face, Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue, Best Puppy (Under 12 months), Best Veteran (over 8 years). The winner of each category will then go to the "Best in Show" class which will close the day at 4pm. Please note that the classes are non-refundable - please make sure you have selected the right class and number of tickets as mistakes cannot be rectified afterwards. Based within Bolton’s iconic Moss Bank Park, the Hive offers a unique space, made up of a series of gardens adorned with natural play equipment. Designed with pre-schoolers and the under seven’s in mind, the Hive encourages young people to make lasting connections with nature through creative play. Features such as our mud kitchen, colourful sensory garden, magical willow domes and our water play installation will inspire the imaginations of young minds. The Hive Family Day Pass ticket provides access to the site to a family of 6, which includes any combination of adults and children. The Hive is open Tuesday to Friday during May Half Term, from between 10am and 3pm (last entry at 2pm). All Family Day Pass Holders will receive a 10% discount in the Moss Bank Park Café on the day of their visit.
