Join Marion from the Ironbridge Coracle Trust for a fascinating short walk from the Iron Bridge and Old Coracle Shed, along the Wharfage to the Coracle Trust exhibition at the Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale. You will be shown points of interest along the Coracle Trail relating to the Coracle Men of Ironbridge and hear many of the stories they told. We stop at the Tommy Rogers sculpture and sloping beach by the Museum of the Gorge where the coracle trust volunteers will show you how to paddle a coracle. The water here is very safe and slow and you will be attached to your friendly, experienced instructor by rope, so you will be safe and won’t float away down river. If you want to have a go, bring a towel, change of clothes and waterproof sandals, just in case! No obligation to take part, you are welcome to sit and watch the others in the group. We then walk to the Green Wood Centre where you will have a guided tour of the family friendly Coracle Trust exhibition in the New Coracle Shed. Embers café is on site and you can buy lunch there or relax and enjoy a picnic lunch on the grassy bank in front of the New Coracle Shed. We then walk back along the Wharfage to the Iron Bridge. Grade of Walk: Easy Length:3 miles Pace: Leisurely Terrain: Good paths throughout Steps and Stiles:None Dog Friendly: NO Walk Leader: Marion Blockley Specific Walk Information: Food can be purchased from Embers café at the Green Wood Centreand wear waterproof sandals if planning on paddling a coracle. Essential Information for Walkers: All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day! Children over 14 very welcome to join this walk/activity but must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility and be capable of the distance, pace and duration of the walk. Please allow plenty of time to reach your event parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. Medals are available for anyone completing 25,50,75 or 100 miles over 3 or more walks during the festival and if you complete over 150 miles you will receive our new Cartman Challenge medal – it has been done!!!
