Gala Organ Concert by David Briggs followed by Reception | St Alban's Church
Jul 26, 2025 (UTC+1)
Birmingham
Internationally renowned organist and composer David Briggs, a former organist at our church, now Artist in Residence at the Cathedral of St John the Divine, New York, returns to St Alban's to open an exciting new series of Organ Recitals by organists from churches designed by John Loughborough Pearson, to raise money for our Organ Appeal.
Our organ, which was originally built in 1881, rebuilt by Rushworth & Dreaper in 1940, and last restored in 1997, now again needs extensive refurbishment to replace worn out leatherwork and update the electronics to preserve it for future generations. We need to raise £100,000.
Our iconic Gothic Revival church of St Alban the Martyr, designed by John Loughborough Pearson, has, according to Sir David Willcocks , "
The second -best acoustic in the country."
If you haven't ventured into St Alban's before, do come along ... you will be in for a treat!!
Big screens at the front of the church will show the organ console for an excellent view of the performer.
Ticket price includes a Reception afterwards with David Briggs.
Unsold tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the night and, if there is spare capacity, students will be admitted free on production of valid student ID.
