Featured Events in Worcester in September 2024 (June Updated)

This is part of my Worcestershire series, where we will be walking a section of the Worcestershire Way every month. We will aim to complete it over 3 months. Each section will be roughly 10 miles. This section goes from Abberley to Knightwick. We will all meet at Knightwick and then get a taxi together to Abberley to start our walk. This will be an extra cost that we will share between us. Distance. 10 miles /16 km Time: 5-6 hours Ascent: 1,800 ft Level of walk. Challenging Terrain: Footpaths and bridleways on uneven tracks, muddy tracks, grassy fields and minor country lanes. Together we will stand up for nature. What you'll be doing... Dip your toe into the world of open water swimming with our introductory lesson. This class is designed for those who are new to open water swimming and would like to learn in a safe and supportive environment, and for those who have swum a bit in open water and would like to learn more about safety and technique. We know that the open water can feel daunting but you will never be left alone; during the swim your instructor will be on the safety boat (paddleboard) so should you get tired or feel challenged there will always be an option to return to the board for a rest. During your one hour introduction we will; During your one and a half hour introduction we will: Meet and greet at the Sailing Club, lots of smiles and high-fives 😃 Enjoy an open discussion on safety covering the risks, hazards, equipment and safety protocol. Learn about different types of water, our legal access rights and when is it safe to swim. Discover what resources are available to help us stay safe. Opportunity for a pre-swim Q&A Entry to the water at your own pace, with plenty of guidance and support in a small group A few fun excercises such as treading water and optional head/face submersion. 20 - 40 mins guided swim at your own pace with support throughout; managing fears and challenges whilst improving stroke technique. Learn how to safely exit the water followed by your debriefing and more high-fives all around before you hit the hot showers! Activity duration: approximately 1hr. St Swithun’s is looking for artists to create two new pieces that will help to tell the story of St Swithun’s to future visitors: a Songwriter in Residence and a Time Statue Artist. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in the Songwriter in Residence or 'Time' Artist Briefs to come and find out more. You will have the opportunity to get a sense of the space, meet some of the team, and ask any questions that you may have.
