A Misty Adventure in Alishan: Forests, Railways, and Bento Stops 🌲🚉🍱
Ready for Taiwan’s iconic mountain magic? Alishan serves up legendary sunrise views, ancient cypress trails, and the charm of the old-school Forest Railway—all cloaked in cool mist and lush greenery.
Kickstart your day early from Chiayi: catch the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle (Route A from Chiayi High Speed Rail, or Route B from Chiayi train station). Top up your easy-card before heading off! Synchronize your timing with the shuttle’s schedule—the last buses leave the mountains by about 4pm, so you don’t want to linger too long in any one spot. Bus timetable and fare pricing easily available online just google “Taiwan tourist shuttle”.
Midway up, don’t miss a stop at Fenqihu! Grab the iconic railway bento and wander the old street market (great for local snacks and souvenirs). Careful though—the bus only drops by Fenqihu twice a day, so keep track of the time; missing your ride means a long wait or a tricky search for a rare taxi.
At Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, must-do’s include strolling the Sacred Tree Trail, catching misty views at Zhushan Sunrise Lookout, and hopping aboard the historic Alishan Forest Railway. Instaworthy shot: capture the dramatic, rain-kissed cypress and the classic red train at a forest bend (perfect for that mysterious traveler vibe—like the man pondering the trees in your photo!).
Weather shifts fast in the mountains—pack a raincoat, snacks, and layer up!
