Xi&#39;an People&#39;s Theater is the fifth batch of provincial cultural relics protection units in Shaanxi Province and China&#39;s 20th century architectural heritage. It was built in 1954 and is located on Beida Street near the Bell Tower in Xi&#39;an. It has a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. It is a perfect example of integrating traditional Chinese architectural art with Western elegant architectural style. It is also a landmark building in Xi&#39;an and a cultural symbol and important brand of this city.

The Northwest Art Troupe (now Shaanxi Song and Dance Troupe), which moved from Yan&#39;an to Xi&#39;an in 1952, did not have a dedicated performance theater. With the support of the Cultural Committee of the Northwest Military and Political Committee at that time, it applied for a fiscal grant of more than 1 million yuan and decided to rebuild a theater representing the cultural characteristics of New China on the site of the former Chang&#39;an Grand Theater on Beida Street.

In May 1954, the People&#39;s Theater was officially built as the theater of the Northwest Art Troupe, and Duan Shaojia wrote the name of the theater. The Northwest Architectural Design Company (now China Architecture Northwest Design Institute) was responsible for the design, and the Shaanxi Third Construction Company was responsible for the construction of the People&#39;s Theater project.

In 2003, the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission invested 36 million yuan in special funds to officially renovate the project. The Shaanxi Third Construction Company, which initially built the People&#39;s Theater, once again undertook the two-year renovation task and completed it on schedule.

The Pits and Exhibition Hall are VERY busy. A tour guide is not necessary if you read english. It costs about 300rmb per person and many guides will approach you. Food and drinks are available at the Pits and Exhibition Hall, but selection is small and quality isnt great. I&#39;d recommend to continue to the next area after the Pits. It&#39;s about a 10 minute walk away. There is a touristy area with many many restaurants, food stalls, and souvenir shops with better prices and selection. After this touristy food area, you can take a 5-10 minute FREE Shuttle ride to the Emperors Museum and forest park. Just look for a line up of people or ask. Dont bother walking as it is just a very rural area without much to see. At the museum and park there are electric shuttles to help bring you around the locations. Or you can walk for exercise and more scenery. There are guide posts throughout the park to help you navigate. Then take the Free shuttle back to the Pit site.

The large-scale sound, light and electricity outdoor situational performance tells the story of the prosperous Tang Dynasty and the love story of Yang Guifei. The scene layout is full of technology. The night sky and the moon are displayed very realistically against the backdrop of Mount Li. The actors dance perfectly, and the lingering love is full of love. The fighting on the battlefield and the flames rising into the sky are very immersive, and the scene at that time is truly reproduced. It is very worth watching and it is also the best large-scale performance I have ever seen.

I originally hadn&rsquo;t planed to visit this place but I&rsquo;m really glad that I did. It was so magical with all the lights and installments. I haven&rsquo;t visited the show, but saw a part of it from the other side. I will definitely come back again to see the show.
