Base camp will be held at the beautiful Moorlakes Wood campsite where there will be space for camping, campervanning and even hammocking! We will have a variety of activities to do on-site including morning yoga, gear demos with Petzl, slacklining, campfires, discos, talks and more! In the evenings there will be a fully licensed bar selling a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and you can choose the fully catered ticket option to get breakfast and dinner cooked for you on Saturday and Sunday. During the day plenty of locals will be around to recommend the best climbing locations across the peninsula. Or if you want to learn something new, we have climbing instructors running courses on a variety of skills from taking the first steps to climbing outside to self rescue on sea cliffs. In their workshop, Mata brings together lessons on character and plot structure based on experience working on storytelling projects with professional teams, alongside their own personal writing practice. They'll share the foundational points of a plot, how these are driven by character growth, and tips for making dynamic scenes. There will be plenty of examples from well-known stories to show the structures in action, and examples of tools you can use to improve your own writing. Bio: Mata (they/he) is a writer, narrative director, and game designer with twenty-five years' industry experience. They are a professor at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in the Netherlands. Mata’s video game writing credits include Burnout Paradise, Dying Light 2, Resident Evil: Resistance, the LGBTQ+ drama Fragments of Him, and Satisfactory 1.0. In prose fiction, they have several published short stories and a novel on submission, with more in editing stages. By booking a place you are agreeing to sit for Lonny for approximately 30 - 60 minutes while he produces the portrait. The portraits are to be kept by Lonny and the plan is that they will be part of a forthcoming exhibition at the library. Lonny Chauhan is an artist from Crawley who works predominantly within painting and sculpture, exploring themes of intimacy and fragility. His focus is on connection for this project - he is aiming to strengthen a sense of community by using art as a bridge to engage with people. Lonny does this by approaching strangers and asking to sketch them whilst hearing their stories, where he will eventually compile all of these sketches and stories together as a representation of our interconnectivity.
