In Sorell’s Classified: The Secret Career of Mary Golda Ross, Cherokee Aerospace Engineer, learn about Lockheed Aircraft Corporation's first female engineer who designed classified airplanes and spacecrafts. Attendee households will receive a copy of the book and a STEAM-themed ‘Mark Dion: Cabinet of Wonder’ scavenger hunt! Best-selling author Traci Sorell writes inclusive, award-winning historical and contemporary fiction and nonfiction in a variety of formats for young people. She is a two-time Sibert Medal and Orbis Pictus honoree, an award-winning audiobook narrator and producer, and Tulsa Artist Fellowship awardee. Eight of her books have received awards from the American Indian Library Association, including At the Mountain’s Base, Contenders: Two Native Baseball Players, One World Series, and She Persisted: Wilma Mankiller. Bayou Fighting Championship BATTLE OF THE BADGES BOXING comes to Kenner, LA and the Greater New Orleans Area on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18th 🚨The Battle of the Badges is a friendly boxing competition among first responders, all with the goal of raising funds for local, first responder charities. WE'RE ACTIVELY SEEKING PARTICIPATION FROM FIRST RESPONDERS – whether you're from the Fire Department, Police Force, EMS, or Military. This event provides a wonderful opportunity to invite your squad, friends, and family to witness your competition. All charity proceeds will go to funding first responders' causes. Important Details: ✅This event is fully insured. ✅Official ringside physicians and EMS personnel will be present, ensuring safety like at professional fight events. ✅All matches will be professionally supervised and refereed by experienced officials from the Louisiana Boxing, Wrestling, and MMA Commission. ✅Both male and female participants of varying ages are welcome to apply. Matches will be determined by age and weight. ✅Bouts will be evenly matched, based on pre-event screening, with no more than a 10-pound weight difference. ✅Weigh-ins will be held on Thursday, October 17 ✅Each bout will consist of 3 rounds lasting 1 minute and 15 seconds. ✅All fighters are required to wear approved 16 oz. boxing gloves, along with wraps, protective headgear, a cup, and a mouthpiece. ❌This event is not intended for individuals with extensive boxing, kickboxing, or Mixed Martial Arts experience.
