"Reality, Surrealism" - A Major Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Painting marks the second stop of its nationwide tour following its debut in Shenzhen. The exhibition brings together over 50 contemporary Chinese artists spanning three generations, showcasing nearly 100 surrealist paintings. Featured artists include renowned painters such as Zhang Xiaogang, Xu Lei, Ding Fang, Fan Bo, Zhong Biao, and Zhou Song, along with numerous emerging creators born in the 1980s and 1990s. The exhibition systematically traces the development of Chinese surrealist painting from the late 20th century to present through a rigorous art historical lens. "Surrealism" first entered China in the 1930s and became significantly integrated into contemporary art practice after the country's reform and opening-up in the 1980s. Today, this artistic language has transcended stylistic boundaries, continuously inspiring new generations of creators through its departure from rationalism and breakthrough of everyday logic. In the context of globalization and the digital era, China's "new surrealist" painting has developed a distinctive character: artists adopt a locally rooted, reality-facing creative approach to actively respond to contemporary challenges like information overload, environmental crises, shifting social contexts, and AI disruptions. Some draw from personal memories and local experiences, while others construct visual allegories at the boundary between illusion and reality. Through surrealist creative logic, they transcend conventional boundaries of realism and stylistic constraints, achieving more liberated and multidimensional expression. This exhibition is not just a showcase of artistic expression, but a profound reflection on the spiritual landscape of contemporary life. It invites visitors to explore the hidden wonders, anxieties, and hopes beneath the surface of everyday existence through the lens of painting.

Henri Matisse, renowned for his bold use of color and fluid lines, takes center stage in this exhibition showcasing his printmaking works. Discover how the artist distilled human forms into flowing contours, making lines dance across paper. Matisse's prints exude Eastern aesthetic charm, drawing inspiration from paper-cutting art to create flattened spaces and decorative patterns. In this exhibition, visitors will encounter classic themes like dancers, reclining nudes, and floral still lifes—not as realistic representations, but as dreams woven from color and line. "Immerse in color" is not just an invitation to a viewing posture, but also a metaphor for Matisse's artistic philosophy: art should be like a comfortable armchair, offering solace to the soul. Amid war and illness, Matisse consistently used vibrant colors to combat darkness and simple lines to capture life's joys. This exhibition takes visitors on a journey through Matisse's artistic career, from the intricate details of his early etchings to the unrestrained freedom of his late-life paper cutouts, showcasing how the master used pure visual language to construct a spiritual realm transcending reality.
