Sonic Spa with Jilly and Stu | St Chad's
May 7, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
New York
We are Jilly Riley and Stu Fletcher, professional musicians offering peace and sanctuary through music and sound.
At our live sessions we create an ambient soundscape. We invite you to drift away to the heavenly sound of live ethereal vocals, an array of world instruments and ambient bass tones and melodies, performed alongside a soundtrack of natural sounds including the gentle flow of water, ocean waves, forest rain and bird song. We bring this to you via the personal comfort of a radio head set, a private audio cocoon for a fully immersive experience.
Sonic Spa offers the usual health benefits associated with some of our instruments, as expected during a sound immersion AND a superbly mixed, fully encompassing experience provided by our headsets, minimizing distraction, allowing you to drift deeper into relaxation.
We gently transition into a traditional sound bath using a selection of soft percussive instruments, singing bowls, a light and airy wind gong and a beautiful deep toned hand-made Nepalese Chao Gong....before concluding with complimentary tea and cake.
Please bring something comfortable to lie or sit on, a pillow and a blanket.
We will close the doors at the start of the event to protect the peace of those relaxing with us. Please arrive on time as we really don't want anyone to be locked outside the building.
Toilets and private parking are available at the centre.
This event is not suitable for people with a pacemaker due to electro magnetic radio waves.
Although the headsets are fully adjustable for comfort and volume, the sound produced by the gongs may be too loud for those with audio sensitivity. The deep frequencies of the gong are very powerful, providing many health benefits but may affect some people negatively. Anxiety can be triggered and trauma stored in the body can be activated for those with mental sensitivities. Deep vibrations and resting on the floor may be unsuitable for those who are pregnant. We ask that you consider these important notes before booking and take precautions if necessary.
We look forward to meeting you and assisting in a peaceful and relaxing journey!

The Owner's Representative Role: NYSDOT Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project
Abstract:
Owner’s Representative (Design Quality Assurance) services are a unique role that is expanding within the engineering industry, specifically for Design Build projects where the size and schedule of the projects are difficult for an Owner to manage without engaging consultant services. This seminar will discuss the fundamentals of the Owner’s Representative role on Design Build projects, how understanding these fundamentals can avoid risks, project delays, and disputes, and what tools the Consultant can engage to exceed the client’s needs and help make any Design Build project a success. Examples of the actual implementation and success of this role will be provided from H&H’s experience as Owner’s Representative (DQAE) for NYSDOT on the Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project, Contract 1 through 3, a $1.7B infrastructure project in the Bronx, NY. Some of the specific examples to be discussed include:
1) Technical Support Services during procurement: Optimization of WZTC at the Bruckner Bridges over Amtrak
2) DB Project Administration: Successful implementation of Bluebeam for multidisciplinary QA of design, specifical and calculation package reviews

NYSDOT's Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project - Contract 3
Abstract:
The Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project, Contract 3 showcases innovative project delivery in the New York metropolitan area. As the final phase of the New York State Department of Transportation's initiative to enhance access to the Hunts Point Peninsula, this $446 million design-build project integrates the work from two previous contracts to serve the South Bronx community. The project replaces aging structures, improves operations of existing infrastructure, increases traffic speeds, updates roadway alignments, and expands overall throughput. It includes the construction of a modern shared-use path and the replacement of a pedestrian bridge to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility, specifically improving safe access to public school PS75. Additionally, four rapid charging stations for electric vehicles will be installed under the Bruckner Expressway, promoting sustainability and improving air quality. The project also involves the design and construction of a stormwater drainage system adhering to stringent environmental standards. Parsons' innovative approach ensures that the infrastructure solutions are sustainable and resilient, significantly improving travel through the corridor by increasing the number of through-lanes on the elevated Bruckner Expressway and making at-grade improvements to Bruckner Boulevard. This project brought NYSDOT’s BIM standards to the next generation of modeling where the full corridor was 3D modeled to validate proposed solutions are compatible with existing conditions. During construction, 4D and 5D reporting was provided to ensure confidence in schedule planning. This project has become a model for NYSDOT's collaboration with outside agency stakeholders on urban design builds.

Pure Malts Whisky Tasting - A Laphroaig Odyssey | The Gray Mare (Back Private Room)
May 7, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
The day is finally here! This whisky tasting is truly an odyssey into the one and only Laphroaig. In 2022, the distillery partnered with USA-based entities to release 15 different single casks. Each cask highlighted the distillery's iconic spirit, aged in a variety of cask types - and were sold in retailers across the country from California to Texas to Georgia to Illinois to New York to Massachusetts. And we believe we are the only group that has collected all 15 bottles - one bottle was not for sale to the public and took a lot of work in acquiring!
Please join us for an evening of "The most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies” along with friends, food, music from the wonderful Sean Harkness, and whole lot of fun! USA Brand Ambassador and a friend to all, Simon Brooking, will be on hand to kick off this amazing celebration. This will be more of a "festival" style tasting and not a sit-down like we usually do.

Yue-Sai Kan invites you to enjoy a fun evening discovering Chinese food | China Institute in America
May 7, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
Chinese gastronomic culture has exerted a profound and lasting influence on the world—often in ways unknown or forgotten. From the porcelain plates that grace our tables to ingredients like soy sauce, noodles, and chili sauce that have become foundational across global cuisines, the legacy of Chinese food is vast and deeply woven into the fabric of culinary traditions worldwide.
China Institute’s newly opened Culinary Center will explore the rich history, cultural significance, and global reach of Chinese cuisine—from elaborate multi-course banquets to noodle shops. In doing so, we aim to uncover what we should know—and remember—about this vital part of Chinese heritage.
In this kickoff event, we will talk about beloved beef noodle soup, featuring a fragrant soup base, slow-braised beef, and hand-pulled noodles. Explore the rich history of noodles and how they cater to a diverse set of consumers and bring people together.
Attendees will be seated around a round table to enjoy a full bowl of delicious beef noodles served in a beautiful Jingdezhen porcelain bowl.

Ho Foods
Ho Foods is a Taiwanese Restaurant located in the East Village of New York City that opened in 2018. Classic recipes, with thoughtfully sourced ingredients. The beef shank is from a couple beautiful farms in upstate NY, Thistle Creek and Duell Hollow Farms. The pork is from Heritage. Ho Foods might be the only beef noodle soup, or noodle shop in NYC that does not source from the commodity meat supply. We don’t make everything ourselves but just about, and as much as we can make and store. It’s a simple and small restaurant for this big and complicated world. Ho Foods has been met with critical acclaim by The New York Times, Bon Appetit, Grubstreet and Eater.
Richard Ho
is the owner of Ho Foods. He loves family, Taiwan, and all things food. A California kid originally, but proud to call New York his home. While he may be quiet, he is happy to share his enjoyment of food and eating to anyone interested.
