Ardclough Dramatic Society presents In the Shadow of the Glen by J.M Synge. Tramp: Is it departed he is? Nora: It is, stranger. He’s after dying on me, God forgive him, and there I am now with a hundred sheep beyond on the hills, and no turf drawn for the winter. The Shadow of the Glen was first produced in 1903. It was the first of Synge’s plays to be performed on stage. It is set in County Wicklow, where a tramp seeking shelter in the Burkes’ isolated farmhouse finds Nora tending to the corpse of Dan, her husband. Synge's black comedy is Ardclough Dramatic Society's first play since Eyes with Hope Gleaming in 2016. AYT Seniors present by Alice Birch He can’t stay awake.
She sold drugs.
He’s good at interrogations.
She drinks in the mornings.
They ate a rabbit.
He smashed up a shop.
She stabbed a man.
They used a hammer.
She had a baby.
She can’t find her mother. Alice Birch’s heartbreaking play reaches across society to explore the criminal justice system's impact on women and their families.
