An Evening with A.T. Qureshi for 'The Baby Dragon Cafe' in Leeds! | Waterstones Leeds

We're so excited to share that A.T. Qureshi will be joining us on the 21st of January to celebrate the release of her debut cosy romantasy, The Baby Dragon Cafe! When Saphira opened up her café for baby dragons and their humans, she wasn’t expecting it to be so difficult to keep the fires burning. It turns out, young dragons are not the best magical animals to keep in a café, and replacing all that burnt furniture is costing Saphira more than she can afford from selling dragon-roasted coffee. Aiden is a local gardener, and local heart-throb, more interested in his plants than actually spending time with his disobedient baby dragon. When Aiden walks into Saphira’s café, he has a genius idea – he'll ask Saphira to train his baby dragon, and he'll pay her enough to keep the café afloat. Saphira knows her happy-go-lucky attitude isn’t Aiden’s cup of tea, but everywhere she goes, Aiden seems to follow. Has Saphira finally found the answer to the baby dragon cafe’s problems, and maybe a little love along the way, too? Information Source: Waterstones | eventbrite

Hey friends. One year in with the best live audience in the business and we know it works, so we're back for more! Each week a different guest joins World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker and we share something old, something new, Something Borrowed, and something blue. Sometimes poems, sometimes music, always a good time. Since last season I have had a baby (!) and am techinically on paternity leave but the one exception is my other baby which is this baby of a night at our new home ARK Cliftonville with Special Guest Jasmine Gardosi As well as some chat and performance from me and Jasmine, there will be an open mic where you are welcome to come and perform a poem or song (either your own or Something Borrowed (!) from someone else). Harry Baker is the World Poetry Slam Champion and champion of the people. His TED Talks have been watched by millions of people and translated into over 20 different languages. He has three books published with Burning Eye and his newest collection, Wonderful, is out NOW accompanied by a tour around the UK and Ireland. He is the only person to have sold out the Tom Thumb Theatre three nights in a row and was recently on the front cover of the Margate Mercury - it doesn't get better than that. Jasmine Gardosi is the former Birmingham Poet Laureate and an Honorary Doctor of Letters. They are a multiple slam champion, beatboxer, winner of the Out-Spoken Prize for Poetry and winner of the Saboteur Award for Best Spoken Word Performer 2023. Their work exploring identity, LGBTQ issues and mental health has appeared on Button Poetry, at the Tate Modern, Glastonbury Festival, Symphony Hall and BBC. They were featured on Sky Arts' BAFTA-winning show Life & Rhymes and their poem about the pandemic, filmed on a rollercoaster, was broadcast across America on PBS. They have taken their poetry across Europe, including at Romania’s Transylvania International Spoken Word Festival, and Estonia’s historical, first-ever queer poetry slam for Baltic Pride. Most recently, they were funded by West Midlands Combined Authority to perform and run workshops for the poetry and queer communities in the Philippines. Having outgrown our beloved birthplace of Forts, we are excited to be teaming up with ARK Cliftonville, a new cultural space in a former synagogue, with a functioning bar AND multiple toilets. come on. You are wonderful and if you've read this far you are absolutely my kind of person, so I would love to see you there. As with all my shows there is an option for a free ticket if you can't afford to pay for one in this moment, no questions asked. So far it has sold out every time so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment! Information Source: Harry Baker | eventbrite
