Join Lucy Sullivan for an insightful talk on crafting narratives from personal and sensitive experiences. She’ll explore various approaches to personal storytelling, including diary confessions, fictional autobiographies, and adapting life into folkloric tales. This talk coincides with an exhibition of Lucy’s publications and portfolio, showcasing her creative process. She will delve into: Her acclaimed debut graphic novel, BARKING, inspired by her mental health crisis.Her zine series, including 1in4 and How To Build A Free Woman, which tackle sensitive topics and pave the way for longer narratives.The creation of a fictional world in SHELTER, based on real-life events.Lucy will share storytelling techniques, insights on crowdfunding, and publishing tips. She will also explore story themes, using characters to drive narrative, and implementing research in fictional narratives. The event will conclude with a short Q&A, the opportunity to purchase some of Lucy’s comics, and enjoy our exhibition preview. We can’t wait to explore storytelling with you! Turn your idea into a mini comic or zine—everyone is welcome, no matter the level of your drawing or writing skills. This is a workshop open to a wide age range, as we are creative creatures at any stage in life. Join Mollie Ray, creator of the silent graphic novel Giant, to learn techniques for creating unique characters, and bringing them to life in your own comic. We will look at how to create a basic comic, and how to complicate it. Come along for relaxed vibes, an opportunity to create, make mistakes, get it wrong, and produce some cool stuff without getting marked for it!
