To secure your spot, advance tickets are available, as capacity is limited at the door. Both performers and attendees require a ticket. The studio provides a grand piano, PA system with Bluetooth capabilities, mood lighting, an intimate stage, light refreshments, and plug-ins for your instruments. This exhibition showcases the incredible works of Qiaira Riley, an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and cultural worker. Riley's pieces include a series of cyanotypes and ceramics that were created during her time as the 2023 Leeway Foundation x Fleisher Artist in Residence. The exhibition will be open from January 13th, 2024, to February 14th, 2024, with viewing times available on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 4PM. "Beauty of the Week" is a captivating exploration of Black vernacular interiors and intimacy through ceramics, cyanotypes, painting, and video. Inspired by the cultural ephemera found in publications like Jet magazine, Riley intertwines her personal aesthetic memory with the collective Black American visual language. Her use of cyanotypes, a 170-year-old photographic process, pays homage to her family by reproducing personal and collective imagery in her grandmother's favorite shade of blue. The exhibition is a celebration of familial archives and the role they play in our collective and individual remembrance.
Qiaira Riley, a Chicago-born artist currently based in Philadelphia, holds a dual B.A. in Black Studies and Studio Art. She also earned an M.F.A in Socially Engaged Studio Art from Moore College of Art and Design. Riley's work is heavily influenced by the visual language of Chicago's south-side, Black vernacular interiors, and reality TV. She is a founding member of 2.0, a collective that curates free, experimental offerings for Black femmes and women. Riley's creativity extends beyond her artwork, as she is also the host of "Something You Can Feel," a black art history podcast.
