Opening Reception, Seasons Without Snow: Singapore’s Petrichor | INSTINC Space

Fine Art
Venue: INSTINC Space, 39 Keppel Rd, #03-10 Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Singapore 089065 Opening Reception: 16 May 2025 (Fri.) 5:30PM–8:30PM Exhibition Duration : 17 to 24 May 2025 (Wed-Fri, 1PM-7PM. Sat - Sun, 1PM-6PM) Artist Talk : 17 May 2025, 3PM-4PM at the venue “Seasons Without Snow: Singapore's Petrichor" explores the ever-changing landscape of Singapore, capturing the everyday stories that define the city. In his second solo show in Singapore, Arora presents a body of work that highlights diverse, often overlooked moments, where change is constant, yet certain elements remain timeless. Through his distinctive monochrome palette and use of latex-wrapped figures, Arora’s paintings explore the dualities of modern life—contrast between tradition and modernity, presence and absence. His abstract, faceless figures embody the hidden narratives of Singapore, drawing attention to the quiet, everyday rituals that shape the city. The series delves into the underlying layers of urban life, reflecting on how people navigate societal roles and masks, whether at work, in personal interactions, or within their identities. The stark black and white tones underscore the balance between transition and permanence in the city’s evolving identity. "Seasons Without Snow: Singapore’s Petrichor" is a visual exploration of the fluidity of time and the cycles of transformation that shape life in Singapore, while celebrating the enduring elements that remain constant, much like the timeless essence of petrichor—the refreshing scent of rain after a dry spell. About the Artist Aryan Arora (b. 1999), born in Saharanpur, India, is a visual and performance artist currently based in Singapore. Graduating from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore, and holding a Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths University, London, Aryan's practice delves into the complexities of societal norms, human identity, and personal introspection. Rejecting the constraints imposed by societal ideals, Aryan's creative journey is a relentless exploration of individual expression. His work focuses on challenging the taboos entrenched in contemporary culture, employing various mediums to amplify voices often silenced or marginalized. Aryan's past works have been displayed at renowned venues such as the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, Art Outreach Singapore, Visual Arts Gallery Singapore, The Substation Gallery, Google Headquarters Singapore, and Mumbai International Airport India, among others. In addition to his intimate studio explorations, Aryan's artistry spills onto public spaces through murals and graffiti, further extending his commitment to unraveling the complexities of societal constructs and presenting art as a form of social commentary. For Aryan, art is not just a form of expression; it is a potent tool for communication, commentary, and catharsis. His work resonates with a yearning for authenticity and healing in a world often shrouded in masks. In every stroke and performance, Aryan Arora emerges as a steadfast advocate for the liberation of the true self, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing through art. Established in June 2009 as a young adult choir under the baton of Ms Lim Ai Hooi, the choir's mission is to challenge the norms of conventional choral delivery, bringing a new dimension to choral music. On the international stage, the choir has clinched various awards over the years, including Champion of the World Choir Games in the Mixed Chamber Choir category. It has also brought renowned overseas clinicians to Singapore, such as Maestro Werner Pfaff from Germany, Maestro Māris Sirmais from Latvia, and Maestro André van der Merwe from South Africa. For ONE Chamber Choir, singing goes beyond a performance—it is a means of honouring shared humanity, creating meaningful experiences, and fostering deep connections between both singers and the audience. About Eunoia Junior College ChoirWe are the Eunoia Junior College Choir. EJChoir is a group filled with love and passion, where choristers strive together toward the shared goal of making music. We believe in the transformative power of choral music to touch hearts, evoke emotions, and foster unity. EJChoir forms a harmonious ensemble that transcends boundaries and celebrates the beauty of diversity. Guided by our conductor, Ms. Lim Ai Hooi, we embark on a journey of artistic discovery, honing our skills and pushing the boundaries of musical expression. Our passion and teachable spirit drive us to continuously exceed the limits of what we can achieve as a choir. From our humble beginnings, EJChoir has risen to great heights, achieving Distinction in both the 2019 and 2023 Singapore Youth Festivals. We also had the privilege of performing at the Esplanade Concert Hall for Limelight 2024. More recently, EJChoir attained Gold in the 2024 Singapore International Choral Festival and emerged as Category Champions in the mixed voice category for ages 19 and below. These remarkable accomplishments are a testament to the unwavering dedication and exceptional talent of our choristers. We hope that audiences will be moved by the seamless blend of our voices in each heartfelt performance. With every note, EJChoir seeks to inspire, uplift, and create an unforgettable musical experience that resonates long after the final chord is struck. About Hwa Chong ChoirThe Hwa Chong Choir comprises passionate choristers from Hwa Chong Institution (College section). Under the baton of Ms Lim Ai Hooi, the choir has garnered top accolades both internationally and in Singapore. Chinatown Walking Tour | Chinatown MRT Station (DT19)

Most Chinatown Walking Tours are done in 2 hours. I am asking you to give me 3. At 2 hours, the tourist can get an informative tour nicely wrapped up. I am asking more. In return, I will give you the ins and the outs of Chinatown, complete with all the glory, and also all the brick-bats. We’ll begin with the arrival of immigrants and all their sad stories. To add more color, we’ll also include all the cacophony and mayhem – which finally resulted with the arrival of William Pickering (hence Pickering & Upper Pickering Street). To add further spice to the story, we’ll throw in some measures from the British who found it so hard to deal with the Chinese immigrants. Yes…secret societies were real. Indeed, for many, it was the only way to stay alive. Even the prostitutes needed their protection! Such were the social ills of Chinatown. But it wasn’t always bad. There were happy days. By the late 1900s, life has change much. Things got happier. The Peranakans made sure Life was not just work and slog. Cabarets, complete with opium, and entertainers in skin tight cheongsams complete the sultry scenes. All you had to do was take the lift to the 4th floor at The Great Southern Hotel, or if you like, a scandalous back-alley walk up the stairway to Lai Chuen Yuen. Looking back the years, by current days’ standard, it would seem Singapore has come a long way. But if you look harder, the tell-tale signs of the hard times are still present. All you need to do is book this tour with your ole Uncle Chris. Together, we’ll walk down memory lane. We’ll go through some happy sad stories (which are all true and not fiction). We meet on the 17 th May 2025 (SATURDAY), 9am at Chinatown MRT. Go in the direction of Exit A, take the escalator and meet me between the UOB and POSB teller machines, (next to the restrooms). Note: We do the worldwide practice of tipping at the end of the tour. Tipping guide as follows: $20 for a satisfactory guide, $20+ for a guide who exceeds expectations, and $30 for an outstanding guide. We also reserve the right to accept or reject habitual late cancellations and no-shows. Call or message Uncle Chris at +65 91814298 for corporate, private, or student bookings. Do not sign up for this tour if you are not sure of your schedule. Please understand this method of booking platform can only perform its best with your full sincerity. Sign up only when you are sure of your schedule. We look forward to your graciousness and generosity! Information Source: Uncle Chris Walking Tours | eventbrite
