TALK What the Normans did to ….. and for Norwich. | The Forum
Jul 24, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Norwich has always welcomed Strangers to its city but some have been more welcome than others. The Normans disrupted Anglo-Scandinavian life, breaking the 200-year link with Denmark and reconnecting with France and Europe.
Dominant new buildings were raised and the layout radically changed but the Normans brought order, recognition and prosperity.
This is a repeat of our sell-out February Talk and is part of
The Norwich History Festival 2025

Not just a social investment workshop | Norwich Central Baptist Church
Jul 24, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Who should attend?
For anyone interested in learning more about social investment, especially leaders and board members responsible for income generation and organisational sustainability.
This is not just a social investment workshop
This is the final of three income workshops in July.
Social investment isn't just for large charities or social enterprises. Neither does it require shares or liquid assets. If these terms bamboozle you or you think that social investment is not for your organisation, you may be surprised.
There are likely many reasons that East Anglia is a social investment 'cold spot'. From developing new services, recruiting staff or investing in equipment, there are many uses for social investment and sizes and forms in comes in. All options require a degree of due diligence and investment readiness.
You'll leave this workshop with increased knowledge about social investment and whether it's right for your organisation to pursue further.
Event Details:
Date:
24th July 2025
Time:
9.30am - 1pm with tea and coffee
Location:
Duke Street Baptist Church, Norwich, NR3 3AP
Outcomes from attending will include:
Increased understanding of what social investment is
Improved understanding of what social investment is used for
Improved understanding of where to start and your considerations
Improved understanding of necessary due diligence and getting investment ready
A bit more about my values
.
Inclusive
- it’s in the name of the facilitation I use because to include is to listen, to arrive at better results and to believe all the voices have both equal worth and are worth making adjustments to hear.
Positive
- this means exploring and naming the things people and organisations do well so that you can do more of them. Honesty too about changes that can be made - but never bashing or undermining a brilliant sector.
Solution-focussed
because that’s what’s needed in a frantically busy sector facing huge challenges and increasing need in communities deserving of answers.
Equitable
because I believe in treating you as we should be treating those you support - as an equal whose lived experience is of equal worth, needs to be heard and is a vital part of finding solutions.
Pragmatic
because having walked the walk I live in the real world, not in an ivory tower with ideas that won’t work for you.
Enterprising
means finding new ideas and solutions that work for you, your values and those of the organisation and its community. I will always be thoughtful about this and not attempt to crowbar solutions from elsewhere and assure they will work for you in your setting.

Majak Door + The Mink & Wazlo | Voodoo Daddy's
Jul 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Majak Door, from Melbourne/Naarm Australia, play an expansive sound that is probably best described using words like dreamy, groovy, and both often energetic and occasionally completely laid back. You’ll be able to hear influences from genres including surf rock, indie and new-wave as well as blues and psychedlic. In 2025, the band is continuing to record and plan for album number three, following the release of their second album ‘Fantasy Camp’ in mid July in ’24., which featured singles ‘Borderline’ and ‘Jasmine’. The bands most recent release ‘Everybody’s Listening to the Radio Now’ is a sightly darker sounding track, however still containing the dreamy elements of most previous releases.

Norwich
Stunt & Tumble Camp is a super high energy, fun day of tumble, stunts, games and activities! Suitable for any ability, ages 5-16. This session has Show & Tell, meaning you are able to come into the gym 10 minutes before the end of the session to see what they have been working on during the session.
You will need to bring a packed lunch, we ask that this does not contain fizzy drink or nuts. Squash is allowed in lunch boxes as long as it is separate to the water bottle for the gym.
We will open the door at the start time of the event and reopen 10 minutes before the end for you to come in and see what we have been working on. Please note, once you are checked into this session and come into the gym, there is no front of house open during this time for guests/parents to wait.
We ask that you bring water in a named bottle, all jewellery is removed or taped up, hair is out of the face in a style that will last the duration of the session, you wear comfortable, sporting clothes along with bare feet or cheer shoes. Brave apparel can be bought from our on site pro shop, but neither the apparel or cheer shoes are compulsory. Our 'Cheer Shoe Recommendation' document can be found on the homepage of our website. We recommend outdoor shoes that can be slipped on and off rather than lace up shoes to avoid congestion.
Please ensure ALL items brought to Brave are clearly named, any lost property that is not named is disposed of at the end of each night.
Due to the positive and relaxed culture at Brave, we implement a closed session policy. We find this helps participants to feel at ease and confident to step outside their comfort zone to progress. If you require any feedback on your child's progress or have any questions please speak to the person on the front desk.
Please use the parking bays provided to the side and back of the premises, depending on the time of day there may also be roadside parking. Please avoid parking in the neighbouring businesses spaces whilst they are open.

Sep 1–Sep 2, 2025 (UTC+0)
Buxton
This course will equip you with the skills you need to become a mountain bike leader. We’ll cover elements of group management, navigation, trailside maintenance, bike skills, skills assessments and your roles and responsibilities as a mountain bike leader. ' Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme' The MIAS scheme is aimed at safely introducing students of all ages to mountain biking in a variety of different venues. The scope of the Level 2 award allows the award holder to lead individuals and groups on lowland mountain biking routes within easy access to assistance in summer conditions. This would mean no more than a 30 minute walk from a telephone and shelter. This is a combined Level 1/ Level 2 training and assessment course. Depending on your previous experience of mountain biking there are a number of possible outcomes from the course: - Level 1 trained. As a candidate new to mountain biking you will leave with the training for L1 completed and will then need to gain further personal riding and group leadership experience and a 16 hour first aid qualification, before attending a one day assessment in the future to gain your L1 award. - Level 1 awarded and Level 2 trained. If you have the first aid qualification and some previous mountain biking experience you may well achieve a L1 award - this means you will be able to lead groups of students on easily accessible, low level terrain, non-technical cycle trails which have easy access should you have a problem. These trails won’t be in remote locations and can include way marked cycle tracks, canal tow paths, converted railways and forest tracks. This would also count as L2 training, before attending a one day L2 assessment. - Level 2 awarded. If you have significant mountain bike skills and experience, demonstrate strong navigation skills and hold a first aid award you may finish the course with a L2 award. The L2 award allows the leader to take groups into more open country, within 30 minutes of assistance, with technically more demanding terrain including loose surfaces, rocky terrain, single track and small drop offs. Course content Safety - Managing risk and risk assessments - Personal and group equipment - Dealing with common incidents - Riding on public highways - Group management and the role of the leader Personal riding skills - Body position - Braking - Cornering - Descending - Ascending - Use of gears - Front wheel lift - Dealing with trail obstacles e.g. small drop Coaching skills - Teaching principles - Look at different teaching styles Maintenance - Bike set-up - Bike safety check - Recording systems - Trail side repairs - Your tool kit Navigation and access - Route Planning - Route finding - Use of map and compass - GPS - Use of cycle computers - Where you are allowed to ride your bike - Access rights and conservation Although this is a full two days of training/assessment we won’t be riding all the time.
