About the Plumbing 101 workshop
This workshop will explore the basics functions of water-related plumbing within a typical home. Participants will walk around our Casa Colina house to explore and discuss plumbing components such as supply lines, drains, vents, sewers, and their connections at fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and bathtubs. Discussion will focus on fundamentals of plumbing functionality, basic maintenance tips, and how to tell when a plumbing issue is DIY-friendly or requires a professional. The workshop will end with several hands-on activities: installing a faucet, replacing a P-trap, replacing a basket strainer, installing live water lines, and replacing a toilet.
Lead Poisoning Hazard Disclaimer: All home renovation
work can create a significant lead hazard if completed in a pre-1978 home. DIYD will provide Lead Poisoning Prevention resources to any workshop attendee living in a pre-1978 home. DIYD also hosts a lead safety class twice a year - we highly recommend that you sign up for the lead safety class before you complete these projects in your home if your home was built before 1978 and you have young children living in your home.
Thank you to our Plumbing 101 workshop sponsor: Jolly Plumbing!

Sound Bath Meditation | Mindful Modern Living
May 14, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Cincinnati
Professional Sound Therapist, Jessica Kirschner, will guide you through an intimate 60-minute healing meditation using a variety of Tibetan singing bowls and healing instruments.
Based on ancient healing techniques, Sound Therapy uses a range of vibrations and sounds that penetrate the body on a cellular level to relax and harmonize the mind, body, and soul. These healing frequencies stimulate brain waves, regulate the nervous system, synchronize the hemispheres of the brain, and promote inner peace. In addition to relief from chronic pain and headaches,
benefits of a sound bath may include improved sleep, reduction of stress and anxiety, relief from digestive disorders, and emotional healing.
Wear warm and loose fitting clothing you’re comfortable lying down in. Please bring a pillow for your head and a water bottle. No experience necessary. Beginners welcomed.
Class will meet at
The Rookwood Pottery Building
in Mt. Adams, Cincinnati. Studio is on the 2nd floor. Elevator not available. Free parking lot.
We are excited to co-create this space with you.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to get settled in.
To maintain the integrity of the class,
we close the doors promptly at the starting time.
PLEASE NOTE:
Due to the small and intimate nature of our studio,
please do not attend class if you are sick or experiencing any symptoms of illness.
Attending class while sick can spread your illness to classmates. Many individuals come to this space to relax and heal, so let’s be mindful and considerate of others’ well-being. Thank you!

The Houses 101 workshop is designed to teach new homeowners, prospective homeowners, and veteran homeowners alike about the many layers and systems that make up a house along with some basic home maintenance recommendations. Workshop participants will walk around our Casa Colina house tracking the different components of the house, learning about their functions, key safety tips, and how to tell if anything is awry. Class topics will include, but not limited to:
- Plumbing systems
- HVAC systems
- Electrical systems
- Natural gas
- Roof and gutter systems
- Interior finish wall assemblies and framing
- Foundations
- Windows and Doors
Lead Poisoning Hazard Disclaimer: All home renovation
work can create a significant lead hazard if completed in a pre-1978 home. DIYD will provide Lead Poisoning Prevention resources to any workshop attendee living in a pre-1978 home. DIYD also hosts a lead safety class twice a year - we highly recommend that you sign up for the lead safety class before you complete these projects in your home if your home was built before 1978 and you have young children living in your home.
About the teacher:
Rhett Harkins (he/him) has been a Price Hill resident for 15 years. He and his wife purchased their current home, built in 1886, in 2010 for $5,600 and thus were thrust into the expansive world of home renovations. In 2013 he and his long-time friend and business partner began Red Door Management in hopes to improve historic homes in the neighborhood and provide spaces for Cincinnati residents to be proud of. As the mission became a reality, "RDM Services" was born as a division of Red Door to help homeowners see the full potential of their living spaces and continues to operate today. Rhett believes that our living spaces can be a reflection of both the individuals that inhabit them, and the community of which they are a part.
About Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops:
Do It Yourself Darlin (DIYD) hosts educational, hands-on home repair workshops for new and veteran homeowners, renters, and everyone in between. The program aims to empower anyone and everyone to feel comfortable and confident understanding the components that make up a house while learning home repair and tool use skills along the way. All of DIYD‘s workshops are geared toward beginners, pay-what-you-can, taught by local Cincinnati craftspeople, and open to everyone ages 16 and up.
DIYD is a program of the non-profit CDC Price Hill Will. DIYD’s programming is made possible through grant funding, sponsorships, donations, and workshop ticket sales.
