Pictish Trail (solo) plus support | Upstairs at Persephone, Edgar Buildings
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC+1)
Bath
The 7 Hills and Phonograph Recordings are proud to present this one off special event with Scotland's Pictish Trail bringing us some of the UK's finest electro-acoustic psych-pop to the South West!
Pictish Trail is the musical alias of Johnny Lynch, an electro-acoustic psych-pop alchemist based on the Isle of Eigg. Over the past two decades, he has built a reputation for his genre-warping songwriting, weaving together elements of lo-fi folk, electronic beats, and fuzzed-out psychedelia.
His fifth album,
Island Family
(2022), released via Fire Records and Lost Map, was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning praise from
The Observer, The Times, Mojo, Uncut, Loud & Quiet
, and BBC 6 Music. A dynamic and cathartic record shaped by the chaos of its time,
Island Family
led to extensive touring, festival appearances, and support slots with the likes of Pavement and Mogwai. In 2024, Lynch revisited three of its songs with a stripped-back, intimate approach on the
Follow Footsteps
EP, recorded alongside longtime collaborator Susan Bear, cellist Semay Wu, and harpist Gillian Fleetwood.
Since his debut, Pictish Trail has consistently pushed the boundaries of his sound. His first two albums,
Secret Soundz Vols. 1 & 2
, were initially released in 2008 and 2013, later reissued as a deluxe edition by Moshi Moshi in 2014. His third album,
Future Echoes
(2016), was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award, and
Thumb World
(2020) further cemented his status as one of Scotland’s most inventive songwriters. Along the way, he has shared stages with Belle & Sebastian, Sea Power, Slow Club, and KT Tunstall, while making festival appearances at Glastonbury, Field Day, Bestival, Celtic Connections, and every single Green Man to date. His live performances—whether with a full band or solo, armed with just an acoustic guitar and sampler—are known for their immersive energy and offbeat humor.
Beyond his own music, Lynch is a vital force in the UK’s independent scene as the founder of Lost Map Records. Since 2013, the label has championed a diverse roster of artists, including Rozi Plain, Alabaster dePlume, Seamus Fogarty, Bas Jan, Callum Easter, and Free Love. Driven by a DIY ethos and a love for unconventional pop, he has cultivated a unique musical community, releasing limited-edition postcards, exclusive recordings, and curating events that blur the line between label and art project. As he works towards his next album, Pictish Trail continues to evolve—restless, inventive, and forever exploring new sonic landscapes.

Mending What Can Be Mended | Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution
May 9, 2025 (UTC+1)
Bath
It’s often said that no Palestinian suffers from PTSD because for all of them, old and young alike, the trauma is ever present and never over. The impact of Israel’s brutal occupation and all it entails – humiliation, harassment, deprivation, impoverishment and the constant threat of violence – is superimposed on all the usual pressures of a conservative, patriarchal society.
Zoughbi Zoughbi
talks about the path of ‘unarmed resistance’ and ‘conflict transformation’ that has brought a measure of hope into a very bleak situation.
This talk is hosted jointly by
Bath Stop War
and
Bath Friends of Palestine
.
Dr
Zoughbi Zoughbi
is the director of
Wi’am, the Palestinian Conflict Transformation Center
in Bethlehem, which he founded in 1994 (
Wi’am
is Arabic for ‘cordial relations’). The centre offers mediation, training and psychosocial counselling to help to resolve disputes and relieve trauma.
‘The Israeli occupation has created an alarming deterioration of political, economic, environmental, psychological status and social structures,’ he has said, ‘but even in the midst of this deterioration I experience great joy in responding to people’s needs and enhancing their hopes.’
He was recently elected president of the
International Fellowship of Reconciliation

The Lady Artists Club | The Glasgow Art Club
May 9, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bath
Eight young lady students at Glasgow School of Art got together in 1882 and started the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists, the first such major female grouping in Britain. By the 1890s a permanent home was found and developed – the Lady Artists Club at 5 Blythswood Square, also being the first residential club for women in the country. Disinterest from the Scottish Arts Council caused the building to close in the 1970s, but the artists and lay members re-formed and flourish today as the Glasgow Society of Women Artists. Hildegarde Berwick shares and intrigues us with the life and growth of their initiatives and wide scope of creativity. (Part of Glasgow Blythswood Festival 2025) Doors open at 1.30pm. £15 including glass of wine or soft refreshment on arrival

The SpringStein All-Stars perform "Born to Run" | Temperance
May 17, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bath
BORN TO RUN - Bruce Springsteen's classic album Hot on the heels of the sold out Born in the USA 40th anniversary set this past November, our friendly neighbourhood American ex-pat/Upton Blues music director Stein brings back The SpringStein All Stars on 17th May to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s seminal, breakthrough 1975 album, Born to Run.

KU.LTURE Present ILLYUS & BARRIENTOS | Saint Judes Glasgow
May 31, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bath
Hailing from Scotland’s largest city, Illyus & Barrientos have been blazing a trail in the Dance Music scene. The pair consistently channel their varied influences into all of their records, consistently offering something truly unique with each record and performance. Barrientos has Chilean parents and was born in America, while Illyus grew up in Frankfurt after being born in Scotland. They met on Glasgow’s dance floors in 2014, building a friendship over their mutual love of the kind of unashamedly big, floor-filling modern house tunes that have since informed their own music and propelled them to the forefront of the UK Dance Music scene. In many ways, they are an odd couple – while Illyus was growing up in the vibrant local hip-hop scene in Germany, and then in Glasgow distributing early mixtapes for an enthusiastic audience of friends, Barrientos was still taking classical piano lessons, playing Chopin and Beethoven. The culmination of their diverse ascensions to this point continues to produce anthem after anthem. With a collection of releases on labels such as Toolroom, Defected, and Armada, as well as remixes for the likes of Calvin Harris, Purple Disco Machine, Armand Van Helden, Sonny Fodera, Kylie Minogue, A-Trak, and Gorgon City, Illyus & Barrientos have established themselves as one of the most prolific and in-demand DJ-producer duos in the UK. They’ve performed at standout venues such as London’s iconic Printworks, CRSSD (USA), Ushuaia (Ibiza), and supported the likes of Calvin Harris, and Rudimental. Furthermore, they’ve already released a wealth of records of the years with their most notable single ‘Promise’ picking up overwhelming support and smashing it’s way through 6.5M+ streams to date. Furthermore, Illyus & Barrientos have graced the playlists of internationally recognised radio stations Kiss FM UK,Capital Dance and BBC Radio 1 as well as hosting a number of shows on Kiss FM UK.
