Our major spring-summer exhibition is dedicated to the pioneering Irish modernists Mainie Jellett and Evie Hone, and brings together 90 of their works of art. It explores their friendship and shared experiences while studying in Paris during the early 1920s, and traces their careers back to Ireland. The exhibition highlights the early convergences and later divergences in their styles as they developed distinct artistic voices. Featuring paintings, stained glass, and preparatory drawings, it reveals how both women were trailblazers in Irish art although remaining connected to conventional themes such as religion and landscape.

An Artist’s Presence explores how artists, consciously or unconsciously, have placed themselves in their work through drawings and paintings from the Gallery’s permanent collection. Spanning the eighteenth to the twenty-first century, it includes works of art by artists as diverse as William Orpen, Elisabeth Vigée-Le Brun, James Barry, Flora Mitchell, Seán Keating and Nancy Lee Katz. Featuring self-portraits, depictions of artists in the act of making, and works that emphasise the stylistic signature of their creator, this exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the artistic process. This exhibition invites visitors to consider the relationship between the artist, their art, their presence, and the viewer.

Sam Gilliam was a revolutionary figure in American postwar art, defining the Washington Color School in the mid-1960s and pushing Color Field painting to its extremes. The exhibition is rooted in his residency at the Ballinglen Art Foundation in County Mayo, Ireland in the early 1990s, when Gilliam began making wall-mounted, sewn works.

This exhibition celebrates the conservation and redisplay of this rarely seen work. Supported by a grant from the TEFAF Museum Restoration Fund, the painting has undergone extensive scientific analysis and conservation, revealing its remarkable detail and historical significance. Mazzolino, who worked extensively for the D’Este rulers of renaissance Ferrara, is best known for his small- scale paintings. This ambitious and important work highlights his unique contribution to Renaissance art.

___________________________________ Since it formed in March 2024, Dublin choir Ceol Aoine has performed with Welsh superstar Katherine Jenkins and the talented Jablokov family in Vladimir's Viennese Christmas at the 3Arena, and with acclaimed soprano Sharon Lyons and Kerry Scotia Ensemble in Between Worlds at The Helix. It was also the resident choir for Christmas at Guinness in Guinness Storehouse in December 2024. The choir is putting on a very special concert, Thank You for the Music, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Greenhills, on June 7th,with proceeds going to St Paul's Secondary School, which has done so much for the community. Drogheda artist and poet Kevin Branigan returns to Rathfarnham Castle to present a mixture of poetry, song and music on Saturday, 21 June. Kevin last performed at the Castle with his brother Patrick and Gerry Cullen, singing traditional songs in close harmony. Previously he performed with Reynardine who in 2005 released The Hare’s Dream, a mixture of Irish, Scottish and American folk songs. More recently, in 2023, Kevin released Heart-Feather, a collection of poems full of both humorous and serious observations on life and loss. Kevin will read a number of these poems alongside songs released on his 2022 release The Night Was Made for Loving which Boston Irish.com described as “a quiet album in a very noisy age.” He will also play a number of his own tunes on fiddle and whistle.
