From the author of the
New York Times
bestsellers Humankind and Utopia for Realists—“a more politically radical Malcolm Gladwell” (The
New York Times
)—comes a bold manifesto daring us to harness our talents and transform our idealism into action, all with the goal of making the world a wildly better place.
A career consists of 2,000 workweeks, and how you spend that time is one of the most important decisions of your life. Still, millions of people are stuck in mind-numbing, pointless, or just plain harmful jobs.
There’s an antidote to this waste of talent, and it’s called moral ambition. Moral ambition is the will to be among the best, but with different measures of success. Not a fancy title, fat salary, or corner office, but a career dedicated to the best solutions to the world's biggest problems— whether that means tackling climate change, making pandemics history or fighting Big Tobacco.
In
Moral Ambition
, internationally bestselling author
Rutger Bregman
reveals how our conventional definitions of success are harming us and the planet, and shows how we can shift the focus from personal gain to societal benefit. In the process, he explains, we will join a growing movement of pioneers who are already living out this ethos. They're the builders, the problem-solvers, the doers who have chosen a path less traveled. A guidebook to finding that path for ourselves, Moral Ambition reminds us that the real measure of success lies not in what we accumulate, but in what we contribute, and shows how we, too, can build a legacy that truly matters.
Rutger Bregman
is a Dutch historian and co-founder of The School for Moral Ambition, an organization that helps ambitious people work on the most important global problems. His books
Utopia for Realists
and
Humankind
have been translated into 46 languages and have sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. He lives in New York City.

About Japan Parade & Street Fair
Japan Parade & Street Fair is one of the largest Japanese American parades in the United States, organized by the non-profit Japan Day Inc. (Honorary Chairman: Mikio Mori, Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York; President and Chairman: Shinichi Okamoto, Managing Executive Officer and Deputy Head of Global Business at Nippon Life Insurance). For two consecutive years, in 2023 and 2024, the event has attracted approximately 50,000 New Yorkers and is becoming a staple of early summer in Manhattan. Last year's 3rd Japan Parade & Street Fair was a great success as approximately 100 units and 2,500 people marched in a spectacular procession through Central Park West and was covered by over 150 media outlets in both the U.S. and Japan. The 2024 parade celebrated the “U.S.-Japan Tourism Year,” and the Japan National Tourism Organization's float attracted much attention. Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which was ranked third on the
The New York Times’s
list of “52 Places to Go in 2024,” was the first Japanese local government to participate. The Grand Marshal was the legendary wheelchair tennis player Shingo Kunieda, a Paralympic Gold Medalist and People’s Honor Award recipient, and special guests from Japan was the cast of the stage production of
Demon Slayer
. On the same day, Japan Street Fair was also held on 72nd Street, adjacent to the parade route. Twenty-four food tents were set up to promote Japanese foods, one of Japan’s major attractions, and they drew many visitors. In addition, booths promoting tourism in Japan, a photo booth with the popular mascot Hello Kitty, and activity tents for origami, calligraphy, yo-yo fishing, and other activities provided New Yorkers with opportunities to enjoy and learn about Japanese culture. As for charity activities, we raised $7,000 to Noto Peninsula Earthquake relief.

About "Margam"
Margam
refers to the path of discovery through dance and music. This captivating performance will take you on a journey of emotions, exploring the interplay between Bharatanatyam dance and Carnatic music.
Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest and most revered classical dance forms of India, is deeply rooted in tradition, yet ever-evolving in its expression. With its intricate footwork, graceful gestures (mudras), and emotive storytelling (abhinaya), Bharatanatyam is a celebration of movement and music.
The program will begin with an adrenaline-pumping
Varnam
, a signature item in Bharatanatyam, known for its complexity and energy. Choreographed by the legendary Dhananjayans, this piece in praise of Lord Ganesha showcases both technical prowess and emotional depth.
This will be followed by an expressive piece that delves into the inner emotional landscape of the protagonist, exploring themes of longing and love.
The performance will continue with a lively
Thillana
, set in a rare 5-beat cycle. A devotional
Bhajan
will offer a meditative and soul-stirring conclusion to this artistic experience.
We look forward to sharing this memorable afternoon with you.
