The Fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975, also known as Black April, 50 years ago, marked the end of the Vietnam War and catalyzed the mass exodus of refugees from the Republic of Việt Nam (Việt Nam Cộng Hoà) and Southeast Asia across the world.
On April 30th, 2025, at the San José City Hall Rotunda in San José, California, the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) invites you to join our community for the 13th Annual Black April Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon: “Honoring History, Shaping Tomorrow.”
On our community’s 50th Anniversary, as children and grandchildren of refugees and immigrants from Vietnam and Southeast Asia, we honor history and empower community members of all generations to shape our future. We reflect on the events leading up to the fateful Fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975, our families’ refugee journeys from the Fall, our community’s contributions to their adopted homelands in America, and how we continue to imagine what the next 50 years will hold. This year's program, performances, and exhibits will explore the 5 decades of sacrifices and struggles of the Vietnamese community in resettling and rebuilding lasting legacies in San Jose, Santa Clara County, and the United States of America.
For this year’s event, doors at the Rotunda will open at 4:30 pm, and the program will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public with support from our funders and sponsors. There will be a dinner reception following the program at 6:30 pm. Please RSVP through Eventbrite. Black attire is encouraged.
The 13th Annual Black April Commemoration is supported by the City of San José Cultural Affairs Festivals, Parades, and Celebrations Grant, the Office of District 7 Councilmember Bien Doan, and the Office of Santa Clara County Supervisor Betty Duong. Sự sụp đổ của thành phố Saigon vào ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 1975, còn được gọi là Tháng Tư Đen, 50 năm trước đã đánh dấu sự kết thúc của chiến tranh Việt Nam và khởi đầu cho một cuộc tản cư hàng loạt người tỵ nạn từ miền nam Việt Nam (Việt Nam Cộng Hoà) và Đông Nam Á trên toàn thế giới.
Vào ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 2025, tại toà thị chính thành phố San José tiểu bang California, tổ chức Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) kính mời quý vị tham gia Lễ Tưởng Niệm Tháng Tư Đen được tổ chức hàng năm lần thứ 13 kỷ niệm 50 năm sự sụp đổ của Saigon với chủ đề: “Honoring History, Shaping Tomorrow”.
Năm mươi năm sau sự sụp đổ của Saigon, VAR xin kính mời quý vị cùng tham gia chương trình ngày 30 tháng tư tại tòa thị chính thành phố San Jose. Nơi đây, chúng ta sẽ cùng suy ngẫm về khả năng phục hồi và vượt qua những rào cản của cộng đồng người Việt chúng ta nói chung và cộng đồng người Việt tại vùng Bay Area nói riêng. Là hậu duệ của những người tỵ nạn và những người nhập cư, các bạn trẻ đến từ tổ chức VAR rất mong quý vị trong cộng đồng sẽ tham gia chương trình Tháng Tư Đen năm 2025 này. Chúng con tại VAR, là thế hệ đi sau, muốn dành cơ hội này để tỏ lòng biết ơn đến các thế hệ cha ông đi trước đã hi sinh rất nhiều để chúng con có được một cuộc sống tự do và tốt đẹp như hôm nay. Vì thế, việc VAR đứng ra tổ chức chương trình lễ tưởng niệm Tháng Tư Đen trong suốt 13 năm qua là việc đương nhiên và đáng thực hiện.
Chương trình và các phần triển lãm năm 2025 này sẽ đề cao sự hy sinh và tinh thần đấu tranh của cha ông chúng ta như những hạt giống đem đến từ nơi họ sinh sống và tiếp tục nở hoa vươn lên vượt qua mọi rào cản để gặt hái thành công và xây dựng một cộng đồng người Việt đoàn kết và vững mạnh, không chỉ ở thành phố San Jose, quận hạt Santa Clara mà trên khắp đất nước Hoa Kỳ.
Tại chương trình Tháng Tư Đen tại thành phố San Jose năm 2025 này, cửa toà thị chính thành phố sẽ được mở vào lúc 5 giờ chiều, và chương trình sẽ bắt đầu ngay vào lúc 4:30. Chương trình hoàn toàn miễn phí cho cộng đồng với sự yễm trợ từ các nhà tài trợ và bảo trợ của chúng tôi. Sau chương trình sẽ có một bữa ăn nhẹ vào lúc 6:30 tối. Xin ghi danh qua Eventbrite.
