Joy's Grand Adventure Live | North Narrabeen Community & Tennis Centre
Jun 1, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Narrabeen
Welcome to Joy's Grand Adventure Live. Date: Sunday June 1, 2025
Time: 4:30PM - 6:30PM
Location: North Narrabeen Community Centre Following rave reviews and packed audiences, Sydney band Redwoods and Western Sydney author Reuben Rose proudly present Joy’s Grand Adventure for its third and final performance! Step into the clouds with us for this unique and incredible journey- part live concert, part story book, part visual dream.
Follow the novel's main character Joy Summerfield, a young woman caught between her obligations and her calling for destiny, on her fantastic adventure as she travels to Frieland with her best friend Fear, in search of where happiness is truly found. Redwoods take the stage to perform the music live, and our story is brought to life with the incredible performances of acclaimed local actor James Belfrage, inspirational speaker Stacey Copas, Tamara Rose, Laura Porter, Tristan Edwards, and Ben Rose. This is an all-ages event and we’ve chosen to make tickets FREE! That being said, if you’d like to make a donation on the night towards the cost of venue hire, we’re not going to stuff the money back into your trousers and push you out the door. I’ve only got so many kidneys I can sell, after all. (Reuben) We would like to stress that seating is limited and bookings are essential to avoid disappointment. We cannot guarantee that this will avoid all disappointment both now and in future- I mean, I get it, there’s a federal election on at the moment- but if you want to avoid the specific disappointment of sitting on a wooden floor, well, just follow the EventBrite prompts. What a brilliant, beautiful, soulful story... the writing hits you and draws you in I found it so resonant and real and relatable.
The narrative, the dialogue, the music, the visuals... it was immersive. I honestly felt like I was watching movie. All of you who were part of the performance were brilliant, and James Belfrage who did the narration and Fear was just stunning.
-Anji Kurian “What a great night!
Beautiful album.
And an amazing way to launch both the book and album.
Was a privilege to be there to witness it happen.”
- Zarz Vox (of rock band Whiteford) What a brilliant story and script! It is very visual and has great potential for either an animated or live action film. I hope you will explore this possibility.
The cast were brilliant and the music equally apt.
-Simon Kurian As a not so young storyteller myself, I personally loved Joy's Grand Adventure. A production that has been embellished with visuals, audio, and awesome narration, it evoked the challenges and milestones we often get to experience along life's unforeseen journey and touched all our hearts. I am truly looking forward to the next live showing of this must-experience event, and warmly recommend you experience staged version of the story yourself!
-Sheldon Ross “I could watch it over and over again.
All the cast play their parts so well.
It’s a beautifully written story and very engaging.
Tristan was in fine voice and I love his interpretation of Peregrine.
Reuben is so talented and creative.”
- Lynette Edwards. Water and soft drinks will be available for purchase on the afternoon. Doors open at 4pm and the event will begin promptly at 4:30pm, until 6:30pm. Wheelchair access and limited disabled parking are available at the site. Copies of Joy's Grand Adventure books and CDs will be available for purchase at the event. Want yours sooner? Beat the queue here *I mean, you get the joke, right? Because it's free? If there's some random fee EventBrite charges that I'm not aware of, then any compensation will be in the form of chocolate chip cookies.

Relaxing Sound bath | St Michael and All Angels Church & Hall
Jun 5, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Beaconsfield
Date:
Thursday 5 June @ 12:30pm
Location:
St Michael's Church Hall, Grenfell Road, Beaconsfield HP9 2BP
This is an invitation for you to slow down, to have the time and space to think about how you are and what you might need, where you are right now and to lie down in total comfort and be bathed and held in sound.
I hope you will be leave this session feeling held, relaxed and rejuvenated.
We will start the session with some gentle stretching and grounding, some breathwork, and then while you lie down comfortably with your eyes closed, I will play various instruments around you known for their vibratory healing frequencies, as well as using my voice. You are free to relax and drift off where the sound takes you.
As a general rule, sound healing in a group context is very safe, as instruments are usually played off the body. The one main exception is for people with
sound induced epilepsy
(which is very rare), and for people experiencing
acute mental health conditions
.
Additionally, during the
first trimester (12 weeks) of pregnancy
we also advise caution for working with healing sounds.
The benefits of a Sound Spa
· Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated
· Increased focus and feeling present
· Reduced stress and a better ability to cope with stressful situations
· Improvement in quality of sleep
· Enhanced creativity and problem-solving
· Breaking up of emotional blockages
I will send out an email with all the details and what to bring closer to the event, but some information for now-
What to
wear
Your comfiest clothes! I want you to feel comfy and cosy. Layers are a good idea as you’ll be lying down on your mat for a lot of the session and you might feel chilly.
Please bring -
· a yoga mat or similar to lie on
· a blanket
· an eye mask if you like to use one
· a pillow or cushion for your head, and perhaps also a cushion for under your legs
Anything you might like to have with you to make you as comfortable as possible!
You might also want to bring a journal and a pen in case anything comes up for you which you want to note down.
Timing
I will open the room up at 12:15pm so you can get settled in.
Unfortunately I won't be able to let you in once the session has started if you happen to run late.
Location
St Michael’s Hall is located in the heart of Beaconsfield New Town, behind St Michael's church. It is a five minute walk from Beaconsfield Railway Station and high street, and two miles by car from the M40.
Parking
There is parking directly beside the hall but that can get busy.
There are parking restrictions on Grenfell road 11am-12pm.
Nearby Warwick road (the road with Bekonscot on it) is usually quiet and is free to park.
Refunds
No refunds will be issued within 7 days of the event unless I am able to refill your space. No refunds at all if within 48 hours of the event. In either case you may gift your space to a friend but please do contact me to notify me of their name and contact details.

Can We Be Great Again? Why a Dangerous world needs Britain. | Rik Medlik Building (University of Surrey)
Jun 6, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Old Guildford
The Rt Hon Sir Jeremy Hunt MP joins us on Friday 6 June to discuss his new book and the questions it raises.
Britain has been through a difficult period since the global financial crisis, leading many to conclude the country is doomed to inevitable decline. But Jeremy Hunt, who was at the top of government as both Foreign Secretary and Chancellor, disagrees. In his new book,
Can We Be Great Again?
, he sets out to rebut those who think Britain is no longer capable of shaping the world we live in.
With the election of president Trump, a world that was already becoming more dangerous has also become more unpredictable. But when it comes to the big challenges facing the world – whether on European security, the future of democracy, migration, trade and climate – the UK remains one of the most influential countries and should, Hunt says, use that influence wisely. Hunt does not shy away from the UK’s weaknesses but argues that they should be considered in perspective and without underestimating this country’s many strengths.
After leaving school, Sir Jeremy studied at Oxford University, where he graduated with a first class honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
He was elected Conservative MP for South West Surrey in 2005. He was first appointed Secretary of State for Health in September 2012, and then served as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs July 2018 - July 2019.
In October 2022, Sir Jeremy was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer. He served as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from July to November 2024.
On 4th July 2024, following Parliamentary boundary changes, Sir Jeremy has been elected as the Member of Parliament for the new Godalming and Ash constituency.
Before his election as an MP, Sir Jeremy ran his own educational publishing business, Hotcourses. He also set up a charity to help AIDS orphans in Africa in which he continues to play an active role.
Sir Jeremy divides his time between Westminster and his constituency home in Surrey with his wife, son and two daughters.
