Passport to Flavor: A Teen Chef Camp | Mitchell Hall
Jun 16, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Columbus
School’s out, and it’s time to turn up the heat in the kitchen! This fun and interactive five-day cooking camp for teens (ages 13-17) is perfect for budding chefs who want to sharpen their kitchen skills, explore global cuisines, and discover new flavors. Led by food writer and chef-instructor Shawnie Kelley, this hands-on experience will leave teens inspired and confident in the kitchen.
Each day focuses on a different culinary theme, featuring a mix of techniques, dishes, and cultural tidbits. No experience is needed—just a passion for cooking (and eating)! Campers will cook in teams of two, enjoy their creations with provided beverages, and leave with all the recipes to recreate their masterpieces at home.
Bonus Fun:
Each camper will receive a
culinary passport
, and they’ll collect stickers for each country they cook through during the week. By the end of camp, their passport will showcase their journey around the culinary world!
The Daily Menu:
June 16, 2025 - Knife Skills, Kitchen Safety, and a Mexican Menu
Get started with kitchen safety and learn pro-level knife skills. Then, head south of the border to whip up tortilla soup and fresh salsa with homemade tortilla strips and chips. Sauté meat, build a flavorful soup base, and season like a chef.
June 17, 2025 - Let’s Go to Italy
Learn to make pasta dough from scratch, cut two types of noodles, and pair them with marinara and alfredo sauces. Round out the menu with a classic Italian Insalata, complete with homemade vinaigrette and croutons.
June 18, 2025 - Far East and Southeast Asia
Master the stir-fry! Campers will prepare customized stir-fry dishes, create pork or veggie dumplings with a scallion soy dipping sauce, and dive into Indian cuisine with a rich butter chicken.
June 19, 2025 - American Favorites
Think deep-dish pizza, Cobb salad with buttermilk ranch, and hand pies filled with spiced apples. Campers will leave with pizza dough to try their skills at home.
June 20, 2025 - Vive la France
Finish strong with classic French dishes. Campers will make a buttery pastry crust for quiche and galettes, then practice swirling and flipping delicate Parisian crêpes.
Why They’ll Love It:
Interactive Fun:
Shawnie Kelley brings 17 years of teaching experience and a passion for global cuisines to make learning exciting.
New Skills:
From knife techniques to pastry-making, campers will leave with knowledge to impress their families.
Team Cooking:

We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, log-in to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you wish to meet again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime.
Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Don't fret about figuring out if the person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you.

Night cruises will be a casual paced 10-15 mile ride. NEW BIKE RIDERS WELCOME! The ride is free, but you need to register for planning and safety purposes. A Ride with GPS route link will be emailed to everyone registered prior to the ride. There will be ride ambassadors who will make sure you don't get lost or left behind. All types of bikes are welcome! Just make sure your bike is in good working order. Helmets are required! No headphones or earbuds! Riders should wear comfortable clothing, bring water, apply sunscreen and bring front and rear lights, if you have them. We will gather in the parking lot near the Dodge Park Community Center.
