everyone
.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
In 1993, the late Governor Lawton Chiles appointed Sheree Davis Cunningham to the Palm Beach County Court bench. This historic appointment made Judge Cunningham the first-ever African American woman to be seated as a judge in Florida’s 15th Judicial Circuit. For the next 26 years, Judge Cunningham faithfully served the citizens of Palm Beach County and devoted her career to ensuring that fairness, professionalism, and the rule of law were strongly upheld.
Judge Cunningham is a proud native of New Jersey, where she was blessed to have a loving and supportive family who always pushed her to achieve her goals. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Rutgers University in New Jersey and went on to receive her law degree from Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C. After law school, Judge Cunningham clerked for the Honorable Paul H. Roney, former Chief Judge of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 1983, following her clerkship, Judge Cunningham began her career as a prosecutor with the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. She later moved to Palm Beach County where she joined the State Attorney’s Office in 1985. Once here, she ascended through the ranks and prosecuted the most serious offenses as part of the Major Crimes Unit.
Not only did Judge Cunningham’s appointment diversify the bench, but it also paved the way for countless African American lawyers, judges, and women. She has selflessly mentored many aspiring young lawyers, imparting upon them the importance of integrity, honesty, and dedication. For many years, Judge Cunningham presided over cases in Domestic Violence Court where she was able to positively impact and assist in changing the course of the lives of so many, including some of the most vulnerable victims of violence in our community.
Judge Cunningham’s commitment to others extended far beyond the courtroom and was deeply rooted in community service, as evidenced by the amount of time she dedicated to serving others. Her service, commitment, and leadership have been noted by her numerous awards and achievements, including recognition among Florida’s 25 Most Influential and Prominent Black Women, the Heritage Leadership Award for Outstanding Community Service, the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award, and commendation for Extraordinary Commitment to Fairness in the Criminal Justice System.
She is a devout Christian, committed to God and her family, and marks her greatest achievement as her three children – Whitney, Kendall, and Frank. Judge Cunningham is also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, West Palm Beach Chapter of The Links, National Bar Association, F. Malcolm Cunningham Sr. Bar Association, Palm Beach County Bar Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
On November 30, 2019, Judge Cunningham retired from the 15th Judicial Circuit County Court bench, leaving behind a tremendous legacy in the legal community and the community-at-large. Admired by all who have practiced before her, she will always be remembered as one who exemplifies grace, professionalism, the highest level of ethics, and respect for others.
A trailblazer by any measure, Judge Cunningham’s integrity, compassion, and fairness will forever be embedded into the fabric of Palm Beach County and its legal community.

Rising from the inferno of heartbreak with a determination towards gentility, humility, graciousness, and kindness, Rosegarden Funeral Party takes influence from life’s tragedies and spins chaos into beauty. Leah Lane fronts the band with a voice like that of the lovechild between Morrissey and Siouxsie Sioux and her guitar playing has been compared to that of Daniel Ash. with bass playing that takes obvious inspiration from Peter Hook. With synths trapped in the loving arms of the 1980’s, rhythmic percussion and drums inspired by dark dance floors, Rosegarden Funeral Party prove to be the second-coming of traditional goth.
