WASHINGTON, DC, MARYLAND & VIRGINIA (DMV)—Mark your calendars for the upcoming Natural Hair Fest Washington DC, Maryland & Virginia and The AFROINTL Fashion Show DC, set to dazzle on Sunday, August 03, 2025 at the COURTYARD By MARRIOTT NEW CARROLLTON LANDOVER located 8330 Corporate Drive, Presidential Room, Landover, MD 20785..
A fusion of elegance and empowerment awaits as Natural Hair Fest takes center stage, offering a vibrant convergence of enthusiasts celebrating the beauty of natural hair and advocating for effective hair and scalp care routines. From dynamic product demos to insightful panel discussions and captivating guest appearances, the event promises an enriching experience.
Embracing authenticity, Natural Hair Fest DC Metro champions individuals embracing their natural hair while endorsing hair and skincare products crafted from natural, organic, and vegan ingredients. Serving as a dynamic multi-channel roadshow, Natural Hair Fest connects burgeoning brands with eager customers through personalized interactions spanning face-to-face encounters, virtual engagements, and online platforms across 24 distinctive markets throughout the United States.
Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair. This is the impetus behind the CROWN Act, a visionary initiative pioneered by State Senator Holly J. Mitchell of California. This groundbreaking legislation marked a historic milestone as the first of its kind at the state level in the United States, effectively prohibiting discrimination based on hairstyle and hair texture. The CROWN Act champions the fundamental rights of Americans to embrace their natural hair, ensuring the freedom to adorn styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots without fear of prejudice in both workplace settings and public schools. Situated in the nexus of progress, the District of Columbia stands alongside neighboring states Maryland and Virginia, all of which have embraced the principles of the CROWN Act into law. Moreover, an extensive roster of states including Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington have all affirmed their commitment to equality by enacting the CROWN Act.
Having beautiful natural hair means having a healthy scalp, too. Since 2015, Natural Hair Fest has curated experiences centered around the natural hair community. The event boasts a full day of programming on the main stage to educate consumers and members of the beauty industry through presentations explaining the history of natural haircare, the nuances of haircare products, and the associated risks involved in chemical services.
“We promote self-love, self-care, health, wellness, and healthy hair and scalp irrespective of type or texture. We want everyone to embrace their natural hair unconditionally,” says Mark David Carter, founder of Natural Hair Fest Events and show producer/director of the 2025 Tour de Naturelle’. As we make our rounds across the country, we're excited to have the opportunity to celebrate with industry experts and some of the most amazing products in the DMV. You're invited to join us as we create a wonderful, immersive experience."
Certain misconceptions as it relates to natural hair are still quite common around the globe. Natural Hair Fest functions to achieve these objectives:
Dispel misconceptions about Natural Hair;
Support those who feel challenged when caring for corse, thicker, fuller hair;
Help correct bad habits that lead to tangles, breakage, and hair damage;
Offer solutions for disorders of the hair and scalp;
Create a collaborative dialogue with industry experts on best practices and the benefits of natural hair;
Provide an open forum for Natural Hair stylists to showcase their talents, techniques, and
services;
Provide a specialty store styled marketplace dedicated to the care and maintenance of healthy Natural Hair.
MarkDavid says, “All hair is good hair. We have to love our roots and our follicles! We want our guests to leave feeling beautiful and empowered. We bring experts from around the country to guide naturals and natural hair care professionals. We are in full support of those who aim to look their very best and understand the need to value their health and wellbeing. Guest with relaxed and color-treated hair can also benefit from the use of products with natural and organic ingredients. Everyone who wants to learn the proper way to care for their hair and scalp is encouraged to attend.”
Natural Hair Fest DC Metro fosters an inclusive, multicultural environment, offering a dynamic space for the general public, consumers, and enthusiasts to connect with professionals from various sectors. This in-person gathering provides a unique opportunity for hair braiders, barbers, locticians, hair weaving specialists, product distributors, salon proprietors, fashion and beauty stylists, estheticians, influencers, and allied professionals to engage in meaningful networking. Attendees can forge connections with peers and potential clients, facilitating valuable exchanges and lasting insights across multiple domains.
Over 25 vendors are slated to showcase their offerings at Natural Hair Fest in Washington, DC, providing guests with a unique opportunity to engage with beloved local small businesses as well as merchants hailing from various cities across the country. Attendees will have the chance to directly connect with the creators of newly launched hair and skincare lines, immersing themselves in an interactive experience where they can touch, smell, and examine products firsthand. This setting also fosters discussions on emerging trends within the natural hair care industry, allowing customers to stay abreast of the latest developments. With a shared goal of supporting local entrepreneurs, discovering exclusive beauty finds, and exploring merchandise from diverse regions, the natural hair community eagerly anticipates this vibrant marketplace.
“We want everyone to celebrate their natural hair unconditionally. Natural Hair Fest features a marketplace of unique vendors that offers products and services that compliment natural, spiritual lifestyle choices. We will be moments away from some of best attractions the nation's capital has to offer, as we celebrate natural hair and natural beauty."

Part of the STAR Summer Camps!
August 4 - August 8, 2025
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Registration: $200
Campers can code the VEX 123 robot using touch to control movements and sounds. They learn sequences, logic and problem solving. Campers progress to using coding Cards and the VEX Coder to control the 123 robot. They learn real programming away from tablets and computers. Campers will use VEXcode with Drag & Drop blocks to code the 123 robot.
Why all children must learn to code:
Across the world, the conversion of information into a digital format – also called “digitalization” – has increased productivity in the public and private sectors. As a result, virtually every country in the world is working towards a digital economy.
As this new economy evolves, special skills like computer programming are needed. This is like a language of numbers, known as code, which allows people to write instructions that are executed by computers. The goal is to create something: from a web page, to an image, to a piece of software!
Aside from giving them a head start for the future of work, compared to other forms of numeric sciences, learning code can enhance children’s creativity.

The Digital Darkroom Club 2025 - A ZOOM Meetup! (Photoshop & more) | Skyloft F Rental Studio
Aug 5, 2025 (UTC-4)
Baltimore
The DMV Photography Workshops introduces "
T
he Digital Darkroom Club
!
"
The goal in these monthly meetings is share and learn more about Photoshop even if you use either Lightroom or CaptureOne in your workflow.
So on the first Tuesday of the month we will be introducing folks to Photoshop and doing creative dives based on the participants needs as well. These Zoom conference where we will be starting at the basics and then going deeper and deeper into CpatureOne, Photoshop, etc to help get more out of that image you captured.(A dual monitor setup would be ideal.)
And if you do not have Adobe Photoshop, but was always thinking you need to get into it, check out their Photography Plans
here
!
In this digital world of photography, there is so much you can do with that RAW file, it's packed with information. So we will explore some classic approaches to the darkroom to help you bring out what you want in the image. Some of the topics we will be covering will include:
Understanding the pixels, digital color
Adjustment layers/Masking
Curves and Levels
Facial retouching
Frequency separation/Skin Retouching
Dodging and burning
Composites, background replacement
AI Tools
Participants can come in and discuss what they are having trouble with, or simply come to learn new techniques, or share what they are doing and learned. With any good software there are many ways to get to the same result. But be very aware what you are doing to the pixels, what looks good on your phone or on social media may not translate well in a print, especially a 30 x 40.
If you shoot people, places, or things come join us because taking the shot is just a step in the process!
Then follow along as we create and discover so many wonderful things in Photoshop. All ages are welcomed and encouraged. A meeting invitation will be emailed to you after you sign up by the instructor. You must have a computer and again a dual monitor setup is ideal but not needed.
Please note:
We only give refunds if the Zoom Meetup is "cancelled."
Zoom invitations are shared to ticket holders the night before the Zoom Meetup!
