HEY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! STEAM URBAN is back for our 3rd growing season! Heal, Grow, & Learn w/ Us in The Garden is a recurring program that takes place weekly on Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm from March 22nd-May 5th. Locatded at 179 Broadways in Newark, NJ. A Healing Sanctuary provides an ongoing opportunity for community members to connect with nature and promote healing through gardening and communal activities. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a novice looking to learn, these sessions offer a nurturing environment to cultivate plants and friendships while fostering wellness in the heart of Newark. Join us as a volunteer on these specified days to immerse yourself in the therapeutic benefits of gardening and share in the sense of community that comes with nurturing a garden together.We need your help to keep the garden healthy and beautiful. Exectations We would prefer that you stay for the entire shift to maximize the amount of work we accomplish. However, we understand if you need to leave early – just let us know when you arrive. Volunteer shifts are intended to offer learning opportunities to individuals, families, and small groups of friends - not serve as private group outings. If you are interested in registering a group of 10 or more, please email us. Volunteer Shift Guidelines: Arrive10 minutes ahead if possible Introductions and instructions will be provided by our Lead Land Stewarts. Bring your own gardening gloves if you feel more comfortable; they are highly recommended for your safety. Bring water, snacks and/or lunch, sun protection, and wear close-toed shoes and clothes you feel comfortable moving in and can get dirty. You may sign up for no more than one shift at a time to allow access to all who want to help. STEAM URBAN reserves the right to cancel shifts if there's overbooking. Feel free to sign up for another as soon as you finish one. Each person in your party (including children) must be signed up. To keep all volunteers safe, children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers 13 - 17 years old may come on their own but will need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver. It is a simple relief printing process that works through developing and using graphic contrast and mark making skills and is the perfect technique for creating hand-made, professional quality printed bags, cards and images. During the course you will be introduced to the basic techniques needed to make a traditional monotone, contrast image and print it. You will then cut your lino into sections and ink up each section in a different colour, put them back together (jigsaw) and print in a range of colourways. Once you have selected the colours you want, you can print your tote bag, cards or a straightforward image. You will learn and explore the process through looking at and discussing other printmakers work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition on how to design, cut and print your lino blocks onto paper, cards and bags. By the end of the course everyone will have produced good quality printed Tote bags, hand-printed cards and images to give as gifts, sell or exhibit.
