Learn from the talented Bruce Ncube as he guides you through the rhythms and melodies of Zimbabwe. Whether you're a seasoned musician or a beginner, these workshops are open to all. Don't miss this unique opportunity to explore the rich musical heritage of Zimbabwe! About Bruce My name is Bruce Ncube, I am a Zimbabwean born, UK based singer/song writer and composer. My music is inspired by my journeys, where I come from (Njube, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) the people I have met. I specialise in teaching traditional songs from Zimbabwe/ Southern Africa in 3 to 6 part harmonies. The songs and harmonies that I teach are emotionally charged and uplifting, designed to build participants' confidence with singing. My method of teaching is in the traditional oral/aural way; reminiscent of when people would gather around a fire in the evenings, or whilst working in the fields and start weaving harmonies. The workshops are inclusive and participatory and one does not need to be experienced in singing to take part in them. I am also an African dance teacher, drummer and percussionist. In 2013, and after many years of touring the UK with Umkhathi Theatre Works and Grassroots Theatre Company, I founded my own arts company, Mema Arts Zimbabwe for which I am currently the director. I have over 13 years experience of touring and travelling in and out of the UK; my current work involves major festivals such as WOMAD, African Drum Village, Drum Camp, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, ZimFest and the Edinburgh Mela Festival among others. Madame Farrenc Goes to the Revolution | Pond Square Chapel
May 31, 2025 (UTC+0)
Grove
I believe that we are at this moment sleeping on avolcano……. Do you not feel, by some intuitive instinct that the earth is quaking once again in Europe?”Alexis de Tocqueville, Chamber of Deputies, Jan 29th, 1848 1848 has been called the European Spring. Starting in Italy, a wave of revolution swept across the continent and, for three days in February, it engulfed Paris. The culturati debated, made speeches and looked on from the salon and first-floor drawing-rooms, while in the street below the barricades were building and blood was being shed. In that same moment, Louise Farrenc – celebrated concert pianist, composer, scholar and Professor of Piano at the Paris conservatoire – was quietly conducting her own revolution of gender and class in conventional musical form. How important was the one to the other? For 150 years after her death, the world chose to ignore Louise Farrenc. Only recently has her work received the attention and appreciation it deserves. Join us, Tekla Arts with the Marcel Chamber Ensemble, on the composer's birthday, May 31st, as we celebrate in concert her life and music, when Madame Farrenc Goes to the Revolution #tekla_arts Supporting Women in Music Supporting Refuge: For women and children Against domestic violence #refugecharity Image: courtesy of the Sarabande Foundation Wikimedia Commons File: Barricades rue Saint-Maur. Baby Wearing Exercise Class (FREE) York, plus social | Lidgett Methodist Church
Jun 20, 2025 (UTC+0)
Grove
This is your chance to create a special memory with your baby—joining a baby-wearing exercise class designed just for you! I’m travelling all the way from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to bring this class to you, and it’s not likely to happen again anytime soon. Don’t miss out! Note: Please ensure you’re at least 6 weeks postnatal after a vaginal birth or 10 weeks after a C-section, with your health professional's approval to exercise. What to Expect This 40-minute class is set to upbeat, feel-good music and is all about lifting your mood. Expect the instructor (that is me) to bring the energy and fun as you laugh, smile and feel great being in a room full of mums who understand what you’re going through. We’ll start with a warm-up to ease into things, followed by a track focusing on connecting with your pelvic floor and lower abdominal muscles. From there, we’ll move into the main part of the class—designed to get you moving at a pace that feels right for you. You’ll be encouraged to listen to your body and join in as much or as little as you feel comfortable. I’ll provide different levels of movement throughout the workout, so whether you’re running on minimal sleep and want to keep things gentle, or you’re ready for a more advanced workout, this class will meet you where you’re at. And, of course, breaks are welcome anytime! What You’ll Need Please ensure your baby carrier is secure. You’re welcome to drop me a message about your specific carrier before the class if you’re unsure—it’s important that both you and your baby are comfortable.Wear comfortable clothes that you can move easily in and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. If you’d like, you can also bring small hand weights (0.5kg or 1kg), but this is entirely optional. After Class Stick around for a cuppa, chat with other mums, and pick my brain! As a former midwife with 12 years of experience helping mums recover their pelvic floor, heal their stomach muscles, and exercise safely after birth, I’m here to answer your questions. Whether it’s about your pelvic floor, Diastasis Recti (separation of stomach muscles), pelvic girdle pain, back pain, or postnatal exercise, this is a great opportunity to get the advice you need. Who Are These Classes For? This class is perfect for mums who are: At least 6 weeks post-vaginal birth or 10 weeks post-C-section (with your healthcare professional’s approval to exercise).Caring for babies up to around 18 months—or even older! As long as you’re comfortable wearing your child in a carrier, you’re welcome to join. (One mum, pictured below, even brought her nearly 3-year-old!)This Is for You if You Want To... Jump on a trampoline with your kids without worrying about leaks.Carry your baby as long as they need without back pain.Build a strong body and core to support your motherhood adventures.Enjoy some “me time” without having to leave your baby.Move your body in a convenient, unique, and fun way.Feel amazing in your postnatal body.Understand your body better so you feel confident returning to exercise.Heal and prevent Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation during pregnancy).Connect with uplifting, like-minded mums who just get it.Why Join? This class is led by me, an ex-midwife with over 12 years of experience helping mums recover after birth. I’ve supported countless women in rebuilding their pelvic floor, healing abdominal separation, and safely returning to exercise. You’ll not only get a fantastic workout but also expert guidance tailored to the unique needs of your postnatal body. In this session, I’ll touch on all of the topics above and provide time afterward for you to ask me any questions. However, fully recovering your body after birth takes more than a single class. For a step-by-step approach to rebuilding strength and confidence, you might consider joining The Postnatal Recovery Membership: https://www.karenpostrehab.co.uk/full-online-membership. This is also a one-off Baby-Wearing Exercise Class—and it’s FREE! Don’t miss this chance to try something fun, unique, and designed just for you and your baby. Book your spot now! Who Is the Instructor? That would be me... Karen Ellis, Postnatal Recovery Expert! I’m Karen, a midwife-turned-postnatal recovery specialist, and I’m exactly where I’m meant to be—helping new mums build a post-baby body they feel strong and confident in. I’m here to help you stay dry in your knickers and build a core of steel so you can be the active mum you’ve always wanted to be. I don’t believe in quick fixes when it comes to postnatal fitness. Your body is precious and deserves to be nurtured back to fitness in its own time. For some, that might take 21 days; for others, 21 months—and that’s perfectly okay. There’s no rush. When done right, your recovery will serve you for the rest of your life. I’m a mum to a 10-year-old and an 18-year-old, living in beautiful Brotton, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, on the North East Coast. This is where I became a midwife. After several years of feeling disheartened by a system that didn’t allow me to give women the care they truly deserved, I trained in postnatal and antenatal fitness and baby-wearing. Now, I’m able to support new mums in my own way. This isn’t just a typical exercise class—it’s designed specifically for mums like you. Every move in this class is tailored to the unique needs of the postnatal body, taking special care of your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and overall recovery. Whether you’re rebuilding strength, addressing Diastasis Recti, or just looking for a fun way to bond with your baby, this class has been created with you in mind. What Are You Waiting For? Don’t wait—secure your spot today for this one-of-a-kind Baby-Wearing Exercise Class! It’s FREE, fun, and designed to leave you feeling empowered, uplifted, and strong. Can’t make it to the live session? No problem! You can still join in by signing up to receive a playback of a recorded online class, delivered straight to your inbox.
