Smex will be hosting a drawing and risograph workshop based on his cookbook and exhibition ‘It’ll Be Ready When It’s Ready’. In his own work, Smex draws quickly, intuitively and every single day, mainly with his ongoing ‘Drawing a Day Project’ where he has created one drawing daily since July 2018. In this 2 hour long workshop, you’ll be taken through several quick drawing exercises, inspired by words and phrases found in recipes, to create some fast paced food-based drawings. Once the drawings are complete, you'll learn about the magic of risograph printing. Risograph printing, or riso printing, is a bold, eco-friendly print process from Japan that combines the look of screen printing with the speed of photocopying. Using soy-based inks and stencils, colours are layered one at a time, often creating playful misalignments and vibrant overlaps — giving each print a unique, handmade feel. Perfect for zines, posters, and experimental art, riso is fast, fun, and full of surprises! Together, we’ll riso print a collective zine of everyone's work right there on the spot, and you'll get to take home your own copy as a fresh-off-the-press keepsake.
